Description

UPMC Corporate Supply Chain is hiring a Fleet Mechanic for our Pittsburgh, PA garage. This regular, full-time position primarily works from 5:30pm-1:30am, Monday-Friday.

In this role, you will help service a variety of vehicles that include ambulances, shuttle busses, box trucks, etc. The Fleet Mechanic will perform minor component repair or replacement and assist with the removal, replacement, and repair of major components.

Responsibilities:

  • Pickup and delivery of vehicles
  • Test drive trucks and buses to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
  • Perform the following repairs or replacements: Preventive Maintenance Service, Front End/Tandem Axle alignments, Minor electrical system repairs.
  • Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Specialize in repairing and maintaining parts of the engine, such as fuel injection systems.
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
  • Identify defects in driveline, brake, electrical, cab, frame, suspension, steering, air, and related systems
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety
  • Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma OR equivalent required and 2 years of practical experience.
  • Completion of a technical school/vocational school preferred. Practical experience in a vocational/technical school setting may count towards 2-year requirement.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Commercial Driver License (CDL)
  • FMSCA Clearinghouse Drug and Alcohol Registration
  • DOT Medical Card Clearance
