Description

UPMC Greenfield Internal Medicine is currently hiring a Phlebotomist/Office Assistant to join their team full time!  

Purpose:
To obtain suitable specimens for laboratory testing by venipunctures or capillary. Process and disseminate specimens for testing. Performs clerical services necessary to complete efficient patient processing for all payor classes and all related clerical support issues.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for collection of blood specimens in a timely and proficient mannerCollects specimens according to established procedures.Displays manual dexterity in successful execution of all phlebotomy procedures.Label specimens appropriately and follows special handling instructions.Acts in a clerical capacity as a phlebotomistCentrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orderRequired to perform electronic data entry.Filing, faxing, report generation, or other basic clerical duties.Treat all customers in a courteous manner.Perform assigned specimen collections without regard to patient's age, sex, physical condition, or biohazard risks.Maintains a mature and professional attitude when dealing with all clients, patients, supervisors, managers, and senior personnel.Practices positive interpersonal skills with peers and other laboratory personnel.
  • Answers all telephone calls, transfers calls to appropriate person, distributes messages and schedules patient appointments.Greets visitors in a friendly, helpful, cooperative and responsive manner.Maintains appropriate files assuring security, confidentiality, timely location of such materials, and assures accuracy of patient and insurance information.Checks patients in and out utilizing accurate procedure and diagnosis coding and performs data input accurately.Performs cashier duties to include recording transactions and assuring accuracy of financial receipts, following policies and procedures.Demonstrates Hamot's commitment to service excellence by understanding the needs of patients, their families, physicians and co-workers and doing what is required the first time, every time by being responsible, sensitive, accurate, timely, coordinated and thorough.
  • Miscellaneous duties and responsibilitiesKeeps work area neat and cleanStock supplies as neededHelp with inventories Participates on teams and special projects when asked.All other duties as assigned.Compilation of various statistical data for accurate records of specimens and tests

 

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent.

Medical training helpful-medical assistant, paramedic, medical terminology

One year of experience in a similar position or a graduate of a medical office certificate program.

One year Phlebotomy experience preferred

Capable of handling multiple priorities in a high volume setting

Ability to perform electronic data entry. Ability to demonstrate 5000 keystrokes. Knowledge of medical terminology and coding is preferred. This position typically reports to Business Manager

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Phlebotomy certification preferred
