Research Project Assistant WPI - Part Time


Under the direction of Dr. David Brent, this position is in the Enhancing Treatment and Utilization for Depression and Emergent Suicidality (ETUDES) Center. This Center is comprised of three R01 studies, Screening Wizard, Text2Connect, and BRITEPath as well as multiple pilot studies that the candidate will work on. The Research Project Assistant will be completing baseline and follow-up assessments with participants enrolled in our three R01 studies. They will also work on the onboarding process for the BRITEPath study to help participants generate the safety planning content in the Brite phone application.  

This position is grant funded.


  • Collaborate in all recruitment activities, handle project specific tasks, and assist with day to day activities for research project including recruitment, data collection, participant payments, budget management, etc.
  • Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s) including recruitment, scheduling appointments, obtaining written consent forms, collecting data by conducting phone or face to face interviews for research project(s) as needed.
  • Conduct in-person semi-structured interviews and clinical assessments, and write descriptive clinical summaries (after necessary on-the-job training).
  • Interface effectively with research staff to maintain efficient communication about data collection, entry, quality control issues and reports.
  • Establish effective relationships on the inpatient units including but not limited to developing positive working relationships with the social workers, residents, attending physicians, and support staff.
  • Monitor computer testing and assessment and ensure the safety and comfort of human volunteers during participation in this research.
  • Ensure that complete data for the projects are turned in promptly.
  • Assess suicidal risk and contact physician investigators when further assessment and intervention are needed.
  • Responsible for engagement with clinical staff to assure patients are ethically recruited into the study who meet the inclusion/exclusion criteria.
  • Attend and participate in all project-related meetings, including regular staff meetings, diagnostic conferences, and research team meetings.
  • Act as a key team member in recruitment, calling and scheduling appointments, obtaining written consent forms, collecting data by face-to-face interviews for research project(s), collecting data on computer tasks, and collecting biological samples.
  • Review and collect data from medical records.


  • Bachelors degree required preferably in psychology, neuroscience, sociology, or related research field.
  • Minimum of two years of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required. Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
  • Prior supervisory and/or project management experience preferred.

  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
