Data Auditor - Surgical Service

Description

Purpose:
Enters Surgical Services charges and data for surgical cases into the Surgical Services Information System. Collaborates and communicates with Surgical Services staff, Finance, and other departments routinely to ensure complete, accurate, and timely charge/data entry and obtain additional information when necessary. Also investigates costs in the supply chain management information system to ensure accuracy.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Enters Surgical Services charges and case data into the surgical services documentation system in an accurate, complete and timely manner
  • Communicates with Surgical Services management concerning missing, incomplete or late charge documentation
  • Reviews nursing documentation to ensure accurate data is captured. Contacts service line coordinators or operating room managers with discrepancies
  • Enters surgical charges and case data into the surgical services documentation system accurately and completely
  • Audits charts and makes adjustments per patient or insurance requests thought patient accounts and customer service departments
  • Follows established policies and procedures to ensure accuracy of charge/data entry, including auditing responsibilities.
  • Verifies receipt of all charts each day against the surgical schedule
  • Accurately modifies case supply charge usage via Surgical Services Information System.
  • Identifies and communicates the need for charging modifications and development
  • Audits supply charges and assign appropriate service codes to meet Medicare/Medicaid and other insurance company's requirements and reduce miscellaneous charges
  • Presents process improvement opportunities to management when identified
  • Works closely with Finance to rectify implant issues for correct charging
  • Can navigate the supply chain management's information system to correctly find price, catalog numbers, and/or vendors to correctly charge items in question
  • Uses the hospital's information system (OAS) to charge patient accounts for supplies that cannot be charged through the surgical services documentation system
  • Occasionally communicate with outside vendors for proper charging of unique items such as laser equipment and neuromonitoring
  • Coordinates with anesthesia to correctly document staff, procedure time, and supplies used
  • Coordinates with the anesthesia nurse manager for correct documentation of intubations and other procedures specifically performed by CRNAs
  • Uses Microsoft Excel frequently for inventory lists to reference material codes and CDMs
  • Enters charges for complex cardiac surgical procedures
  • Evaluates appropriate implant charging and tracking data (i.e. serial and lot numbers for implant)
  • Works with patient billing for Medicare cases to assign correct C Codes for acceptable device up-charges
  • Can assist OR schedulers with duties as assigned for cross-trained back up because of surgical services documentation system knowledge
  • Participates in the orientation of new employeesPerforms other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma required.
  • Previous computer and typing experience required. 
  • Dexterity in using office equipment (i.e., computers, typewriters, adding machines). Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Medical experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and the operating room preferred.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Clearances must be dated within 90 days
 

  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
