Description

Purpose:
The Executive Director functions as the chief operating and chief financial executive of the of the Continuum Care Retirement Community and subsidiary of UPMC Senior Communities. The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Community and for supporting its needs in interactions with its Board of Directors and with UPMC. The Executive Director evaluates the regulatory and market conditions impacting the campus and works with the board of directors and president of UPMC Senior Communities to determine strategic direction. The ED is responsible for the execution of strategic and business plans and the development of an organization structure and processes which deliver quality services in a cost-effective manner.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Participates in board committees as requested, participate in fund raising.
  • Always maintains a professional appearance and manner.
  • Represents the organization and participates in planning, advocacy, education, and other activities of the national and state trade associations as appropriate.
  • Participates in the formulation and maintenance of program policies and procedures.
  • Maintains flexibility in schedule and responds to unexpected emergencies, changes in work load and vacation coverage in order to fill responsibilities.
  • Manages projects, develops partnerships and business opportunities which further the mission and strategic position of the organization.
  • Stays abreast of state and federal regulations from Department of Aging, Department of Public Welfare, Department of Health and CMS which apply to health care operations. Develops systems to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, professional standards, and the values established for the organization.
  • Maintains a courteous, respectful, and safe environment for customers, visitors and staff.
  • Utilizes supplies and equipment economically.
  • Pursues professional growth through the continuing education process.
  • Guides, supports, and evaluates a team of staff including, but not limited to, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources, Compliance, Nursing, General Operations, and Quality. Integrates these functional areas where appropriate, with their corresponding counterparts within UPMC.
  • Coordinates the development of all necessary plans and budgets for the organization.
  • Identifies service delivery problems and uses good judgment in their resolution.
  • Organizes and provides administrative oversight to the PLCC. Plans and implements the key positions, structures, processes, technologies and talent and retains the staff needed to carry out the business and clinical functions of the organization.
  • Reaches out to and educates, when necessary, regulatory bodies, policy-makers, potential business associates.
  • Assesses current regulatory and market conditions affecting the PLCC. Keeps the board of directors and the President, UPMC Senior Communities sufficiently informed of opportunities and risks to determine the organization's position, plans and objectives.
  • Executes administrative duties as directed by the Board of Directors and the President.
  • Monitors and reports organizational performance to the Board of Directors and the President of Senior Communities, regulators, staff, and other stakeholders, and acts upon indicators that improvement is needed or has been achieved.
  • Knows and exemplifies the mission and goals of UPMC and of the PLCC programs.
  • May serve as a role model for staff.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, or related field and significant management and administration experience.
  • Local and national travel is required.
  • Flexible schedule is required.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible, administrative management experience in health care or human services, serving frail and/or elderly populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate new programs, and to deliver both quality and cost-effective services in compliance with all legal and professional requirements.
  • Demonstrated organizational leadership which results in the accomplishment of significant objectives through and with the efforts of other people.
  • Desired or Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Advanced training or knowledge related to aging and/or long-term care administration and managed care


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
NHA, PCA, or CPA certification preferred.
