UPMC Kane is currently hiring a full time Maintenance Supervisor to join their team!  

Assist the Facilities Management Manager in all tasks that fall in accordance with the department.



  • Conduct rounds on a regular basis for the purpose of direct observation of hospital personnel and staff performance.
  • May provide patient restraint if properly trained and physically capable to do so and only as directed by appropriate nursing personnel.
  • Assist Facilities Management Manager to insure maintenance personnel compliance with infection control policies and procedures and institute follow-up for deficiencies as necessary.
  • Demonstrate creativity in staffing and scheduling to minimize labor costs while providing a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide the care and/or services required.
  • Communicate and coordinate with outside agencies/companies, regulatory inspections, outside contractors and facilitates as appropriate.
  • Assist in developing and assigning daily work orders, PM tasks, emergency work orders and projects to the maintenance department staff.
  • Assist in the selection of products and acquisitions of new equipment with consideration of resource consumption (personnel, materials, time, energy and finances) and assist in investigating cost effective alternatives to established practice and purchases.
  • Participate in the development of department goals and in the development of an implementation plan to facilitate goal attainment.
  • Conduct follow-up and corrective action in regard to maintenance issues and conduct follow-up on incidents (patient, employee, safety and security) that have occurred in the absence of the Manager.
  • Assist the Facilities Management Manager with the selection of new employees, vendors, contractors, purchasing of products, purchasing of materials and the development of capital budget needs and requests.
  • Provide for cost effective repair/replacement of equipment on a timely basis and implements new programs as requested and/or necessary.
  • Assist and/or plan, coordinate and execute construction and/or renovation projects and other designated project work.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with medical and interdepartmental personnel on hospital maintenance issues and in the development of departmental policies.
  • Assist in budget preparation and/or capital budget development and operations within budgetary limits and assist in determining the qualifications and competencies needed by the department personnel in order to provide the level of services required.
  • Participate in the selection and hiring of individuals with the required abilities, qualifications and competencies.
  • Receive calls at times if the Facilities Management Manager is not available, by either phone or pager and assumes responsibility for supervisory activities in the absence of the manager.
  • Assist the Facilities Management Manager in coordination and evaluation of department practices to ensure provision of quality work for hospital maintenance and assists the Facilities Management Manager in establishing maintenance priorities.
  • Assist and/or initiate the disciplinary process for department staff as appropriate and assist with employee performance reviews to assess individual performance and competence and to assist in the development of performance related goals.
  • Handle directly maintenance problems involving patients, nursing units and other departments by utilizing open communications with the respective supervisor.
  • Communicate the identification and/or resolution of maintenance problems to the Facilities Management Manager and/or head nurse/department manager.
  • Monitor maintenance practices to ensure compliance with maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Assist in activities to ensure effective and efficient operation of the department in the absence of the Manager.
  • Utilize effective methods of reporting to the Facilities Management Manager on matters relating to the operation of the department and utilizes maintenance inspection results in addressing hospital maintenance from non-compliance to compliance.
  • Assist in developing recommendations for space and other resources needed by the department and assist in selection of outside resources for services not provided by the department or within the organization.



5 to 7 years experience of institutional building maintenance experience.

Knowledge and proficiency of 2 or more primary crafts of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, refrigeration and/or HVAC with an adequate understanding and skills in all phases of building maintenance.

Ability to plan, coordinate and execute all requirements of major repairs, install equipment or systems, construction and renovation projects, or various other designated project work. Ability to use various tools and equipment.
