Job Description/Summary/Objectives: University of Pittsburgh Physicians seeks a Surgeon to examine patients and make diagnoses to determine the need for surgery; review a patient’s medical history and plan the best procedure for treatment, and evaluate and advise the patient on the risks involved with having surgery; perform surgical procedures to prevent or correct injury, disease, deformities, and patient function, and prescribe preoperative and postoperative treatment and procedures; evaluate, advise, and treat patients with abdominal and gastrointestinal cancer, and those needing acute surgical care; perform open, laparoscopic, and robotic assisted surgical procedures for general surgery and gastrointestinal cancer; participate in multidisciplinary pancreatic cancer clinic, tumor board, and research conferences.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Examine patients and make diagnoses to determine the need for surgery;
  • Review a patient’s medical history and plan the best procedure for treatment, and evaluate and advise the patient on the risks involved with having surgery;
  • Perform surgical procedures to prevent or correct injury, disease, deformities, and patient function, and prescribe preoperative and postoperative treatment and procedures;
  • Evaluate, advise, and treat patients with abdominal and gastrointestinal cancer, and those needing acute surgical care; perform open, laparoscopic, and robotic assisted surgical procedures for general surgery and gastrointestinal cancer;
  • Participate in multidisciplinary pancreatic cancer clinic, tumor board, and research conferences.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Medical degree or equivalent;
  • must have completed a residency in General Surgery;
  • must have completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology;
  • must be Board Certified in General Surgery;
  • must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Surgical Oncology;
  • must have a valid PA medical license or eligibility for licensure.
