Sr. Professional Staff Nurse -- OB Resource Pool

We are currently hiring a Sr. Professional Staff Nurse to support the OB Resource Pool at our Oakland location. The Resource Pool provides ad hoc staffing solutions for special needs or disruptions in the hospital’s workforce, such as in the case of vacancies, call-offs, and surges in patient census. OB Resource staff float to our OB areas including Labor and Delivery, Mother/Baby, and Antepartum. Resource staff also opens and staffs overflow units during high census, so a high level of autonomy and self-direction is required. To work in the Resource Pool, you must be especially flexible, knowledgeable, and responsive! Typically, 2-3 years of inpatient experience or prior work in a resource/float position is preferred; RNs receive a 10% differential in their hourly rate for floating. Our RNs work a rotating schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor.

The Professional Staff Nurse is a valued step in the UPMC nursing career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement; salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience. Six months experience is required for Professional Staff Nurses.

Responsibilities:

  • Applies the nursing process within the framework of Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. Formulates daily goals and a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers the individual needs of the patient in a holistic manner.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking in the identification of clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues for the patient within an episode of care.
  • Practices solid communication skills and can articulate and translate the patient's condition to other care providers and to negotiate and make recommendations for changes in patient care and unit practices. Patient documentation is comprehensive and promotes communication between caregivers.
  • Creates a caring and compassionate patient-focused experience by building healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Incorporates national professional organization as well as business unit and health system goals to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years experience required. 5 years RN experience STRONGLY preferred.
  • Experience in OB STRONGLY preferred.
  • BSN preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Exemplary clinical judgment with critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.,

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.
  • UPMC approved nursing certification preferred.
  • Annual completion of 2 professional contributions selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by your Unit Director OR certification and 1 professional contribution selected from department, hospital or system goals, and approved by your Unit Director as set forth through UPMC's My Nursing Career Ladder.Certification not required if Master's in nursing or DNP is held.
  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
