Description

UPMC Susquehanna is currently searching for a full-time Community Outreach Specialist. This position will be a critical member of our community outreach team, working with internal staff and external organizations to forward the mission of UPMC locally through partnership and community events. 

Purpose:
Promotes UPMC in Northcentral PA by appropriately marketing its services, service lines and physicians via outreach activities, wellness events, public information, etc. to increase referrals and provide education/outreach support to Strategic Planning and other departments.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the development and implementation of community health programs.
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate educational/outreach/promotional programs (with follow up completed as needed), including Safe Sitter, health fairs/screenings (i.e., corporate events, public prostate, and stroke screenings, etc.), community education programs, and wellness activities.
  • Individuals/groups/companies utilize the Health Line or staff is contacted directly to request needed services.
  • Plan and schedule events, contact staff/physicians to provide services, information, etc. Informational displays/programs, and assist with health fairs/screenings (blood pressure, blood glucose, computerized body composition, lung capacity, assist with osteoporosis/PIXI, assist with skin cancer, prostate, other physician-directed health screenings, wax bath, etc.).
  • Work with/assist Community Outreach staff, corporate PR & Marketing staff, outside vendors and others in the development/production/placement of the following:
  • Advertising (print and radio/work with artists, photographers, designers, printers, etc.); Promotion (giveaways, sponsorships, vendors, etc.).
  • Publications (oversee design, development, and production of brochures and other printed materials), Outreach programs.
  • PowerPoint (and other audio/visual presentations and displays).
  • Direct Communication (verbal and written).
  • Assist Manager of Community Relations in implementing plans and budget.
  • Provide input and guidance to personnel regarding appropriate physician/service referrals, record keeping, and reporting, etc.
  • Assist with Community Health Needs Assessment and community benefit tracking.
  • Assist in the appropriation of funds for office supplies and materials, promotional materials, advertising, community outreach activities, etc.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, Marketing or a related field required.
  • Strong communications and customer service skills are necessary.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Computer skills (i.e., Microsoft Office - especially Excel and Word).
  • Public speaking (limited), the ability to appropriately field requests to the proper person, department, committee, etc.
  • Basic finance skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with all members of the health care delivery team (including physicians, extenders, families, patients) as well as the general public.
  • Follow through with projects from inception to completion.
