Research Project Assistant WPI


The Research Project Assistant WPI will be an integral member of existing research teams on up to three NIH-funded projects, two of which are studies of people with and without chronic low back pain who are participating in mindfulness meditation courses. The other study also involves evaluation of persons who experience chronic low back pain. Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s). Share responsibility of managing the day-to-day activities for the research project. Handle project specific tasks as needed.


This position is grant funded.


  • Collaborate in all recruitment activities, handle project specific tasks, and assist with day-to-day activities for research projects including recruitment, data collection, participant payments, budget management, etc.
  • Independently execute job functions for research protocol(s) including recruitment, scheduling appointments, obtaining online consent, collecting data via REDCap and by conducting phone or face to face interviews for research project(s) as needed.
  • Interface effectively with research staff to maintain efficient communication about data collection, entry, quality control issues and reports.
  • Monitor computer testing and assessment and ensure the safety and comfort of human volunteers during participation in this research.
  • Ensure that complete data for the projects are turned in promptly.
  • Ensure that participants are reimbursed promptly and accurately for their participation.
  • Ensure protocol adherence and quality control in the collection of physical activity monitoring data.
  • Responsible for engagement with clinical staff to assure patients are ethically recruited into the study who meet the inclusion/exclusion criteria.
  • Attend and participate in all project-related meetings, including regular staff meetings, and research team meetings.
  • Act as a key team member in recruitment, calling and scheduling appointments, obtaining consent, collecting data by face-to-face interviews for research project(s), and collecting data on computer tasks.
  • Review and collect data from medical records.


  • Bachelors degree required preferably in Psychology, Neuroscience, Sociology, or related field.
  • Minimum of two years of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required.
  • Experience with human subjects preferred.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required. Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
  • Prior supervisory and/or project management experience preferred.
  • Prior experience with REDCap, PittPro, and Vincent payment system preferred.
  • Interest in mindfulness meditation and chronic pain research preferred.
