  • Provide insurance verification consultation and assistance, as needed or requested, to:Maintain and share current knowledge of payer standards, practices and preferences, particularly for Medical Assistance.Maintain and share current knowledge of all Agency programs and services, particularly Pediatric Private Duty Services.Verify and document customer's insurance coverage(s), with relevant payersCommunicate insurance information to Agency staff regarding benefit coverage, deductions, co-pays, and special instructionsMaintain current database of all Agency insurance payers, with specifics about the insurance provider
  • Investigate and resolve individual customer accounts:Generate, research, respond to, distribute, and track Billing Communication formsAssist in the process to generate, submit, and manage administrative appeals in accordance with each payer's guidelines
  • Maintain personal productivity by demonstrating satisfactory attendance and punctuality
  • Demonstrate support of the Agency's Mission, Principles, and Values, Ethics, & Standards of Behavior
  • Maintain and protect customer and Agency confidentiality
  • Educate and require adherence to performance improvement processes and initiatives
  • Represent and participate in Agency professional and community activities as requested
  • Obtain and maintain current knowledge ofThe requirements, standards, practices, and preferences of the Agency services The requirements, standards, practices, and preferences of the payers of those servicesThe computer systems used to manage reimbursement and customer records
  • Expand knowledge and expertise through educational resources and literature review
  • Promote personal and co-worker safety during work duties
  • Serve as the principle Agency contact for selected payers to:Negotiate with payers to secure reimbursement rates, initial and ongoing authorizations for servicesCommunicate authorization information and payer expectations and/or instructions to appropriate Agency staffProvide the payers with clinical progress reports regarding the customer's care, treatment, and progress toward goals/outcomesImplement monitoring and tracking mechanisms to compare authorizations with services providedProvide clinical assistance to programs and other clinical staff



  • Education: Graduate of Practical Nurse Program accredited by NLN required Experience:
  • Two years health care experience within a hospital, medical doctor's office, other related health care organization, insurance verification/insurance billing or related experience preferred
  • Proven competency in clinical application system and software and Microsoft Office.
  • Access to transportation in Agency service area with valid PA drivers' license and proof of auto liability required

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Must complete licensure examination within FOUR MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 4 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.

Clearances must be dated within 90 days

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) OR Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
