Are you an experienced project manager with a background utilizing Agile methodology to achieve positive results? If so, an opportunity as a Project Manager with UPMC Health Plan's Project Management Office may be the perfect fit for you!

In this role, you will lead high priority projects and programs to success for the business by providing a clear vision of the projects' value, goals, and plan to achieve the projects' value and ROI. Additionally, you will define the project metrics with the responsible business owners and develop and maintain detailed project plans and reports. The Project Manager will provide clear direction, leadership and accountability for project management efforts.


  • Apply best practices in project management, Agile, Lean, Six Sigma, and other applicable methodologies to maximize ROI.
  • Work with other managers to achieve efficiencies across the integration of multiple projects and operational processes.
  • Develop and implement key metrics to measure and report on progress and value of initiatives.
  • Assist team members in resolving project problems; escalate issues when necessary and facilitate decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans; this includes utilizing standard project documentation and methodology and project tracking and reporting procedure
  • Proactively identify trends and process improvement opportunities across departments within projects and operations.
  • Provide concise and timely status reporting as required.
  • Assure quality of information through business case and process/application level testing; validate test results per the business needs.
  • Research, gather, and analyze information to make sound business decisions based on project deliverables.
  • Lead project teams to create enhanced business value and positive ROI.
  • Manage technology and business process improvement, ensuring value realization of project results for operations.
  • Apply cross-functional, change management and implementation strategies; ensure that all the participating parties have committed to effective implementation of the processes and procedures; providing synergies and value beyond what can be provided in a single functional area.
  •  Consistently demonstrate performance towards UPMC's values.
  • Assist with achieving Operations division strategic goals as well as system strategic goals.



  • Bachelor's Degree. Major in in engineering, business, mathematics, statistics, health care, management, or related field. 
  • Master’s degree preferred (extensive related - four plus years - experience will be considered). 
  • Four plus years of experience in operations. 
  • Two plus years of experience in project management. 
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong management, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written) are required. 
  • Excellent Project Management skills. 
  • Ability to perform planning for multiple and/or large initiatives/projects, managing all tasks required to provide services to meet client and business needs within budget and targeted deadlines.  
  • Ability to effectively manage project business value, scope, time, cost, quality, people, communication, risk, procurement & vendors, and stakeholders.  
  • Excellent computer skills required, including Access, Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, and other pertinent software applications. 
  • Experience in health care insurance or health care industry preferred.
  • Previous IT project management experience is preferred.
  • Previous business process improvement experience is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge/experience with Lean and Agile methodologies are strongly preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
PMI's PMP? Certification required or completion of UPMC Health Plan PM Certification within one year from date of hire.
