Description

The Laurels is looking for a temporary Geriatric Nursing Assistant (NA) to join our team!  This would be a full time, evening shift position.  The shift is 2:00 pm - 10:30 pm.  This would be a great opportunity to get started with your career at UPMC!

The Geriatric NA assists the nursing team in delivering the highest quality of care to the residents, providing the appropriate level of assistance as needed and per the resident's support plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct resident care as assigned by the Charge person, LPN, or Director of Resident Care, including all activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting and ambulating residents.
  • Maintain an environment conducive to resident safety and health including, but not limited to, completing safety checks, keeping the department and resident rooms clean and organized, cleaning department specific equipment, changing bed linens, emptying linen hampers, responsible for handling personal laundry, keeping hallways clear of equipment and returning equipment to proper location, deliver resident nourishments, perform routine tasks such as but not limited to resident weights and vital signs.
  • Acquire and distribute supplies and equipment to facilitate resident care delivery including, but not limited to, lifting devices, ordering supplies, setting up resident care equipment within the scope of the nursing assistant position.
  • Listen to resident/family concerns and assume responsibility for follow through.
  • Provide feedback to the Director of Resident Care and Charge person regarding resident care and report changes in resident's status. Document in the Nursing Assistant notes in accordance with established procedures.
  • Comply with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions and safe resident handling; understand policies and procedures for blood borne pathogen exposure.
  • Strictly adhere to all policies and practices relative to resident care and facility related information, respond within the scope of the nursing assistant role to emergent situations.
  • Assure equipment malfunctions are reported to the DRC/charge person.
  • Establish appropriate and effective communication strategies.
  • Establish professional and respectful interpersonal relationships.
  • Contribute to the universal facility activities including, but not limited to, responding to call lights and telephones promptly, assisting with meals, and transporting residents. Assist new employees in following established facility policies and procedures.

 

Qualifications

**Candidates will be placed in to the correct position within the career ladder that reflects their experience.**

Nursing Assistant:  High school diploma or equivalent required.  

Geriatric Nursing Assistant:  High school diploma or equivalent required.  Six months experience as a long-term care NA required.

Internal candides must have a Solid/Strong/Good or higher rating on most recent performance evaluation. Completion of Aging Institute Geriatric Nursing Assistant Program required.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
