UPMC Altoona is currently hiring a Casual Registered Nurse to cover various shifts on the 6F Observation unit. Our Observation Unit on 6F is a 24-bed, fast paced adult observation unit specializing in providing timely and efficient care to patients. Observation patients stay approximately 24-48 hours under the observation status. Common diagnoses are chest pain, syncope, TIA, asthma exacerbation, COPD, pneumonia, stable cardiac arrythmias, and seizure. We have also recently collaborated with Dr. Jabbour and the UPMC Altoona Heart and Vascular Institute on their Watchman patients– an exciting new cardiac procedure here at UPMC  Altoona.  We work in a culture of safety and encourage staff to speak up when something isn’t safe. We are dedicated to providing outstanding care, always looking to improve patient outcomes using evidence based practice, and are committed to our patients and each other.

 

Purpose:
Provides direct and indirect care to patients utilizing the nursing process. Provides leadership for the nursing team, and contributes to the education of a variety of members of the staff and students.

 


Responsibilities:

  • Document/records appropriate information required in performance of responsibilities in relation to the job description.

  • General nursing ability.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to adapt to clinical treatment and instructional aspect of care to all stages of the life cycle and to various states of health and disease.

 

Qualifications

Minimum of 1 year experience

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 34
