Under the direction of the EVP UPMC and Chief Scientific Officer, this role will be responsible for coordinating activity within the department and other areas related to the CSO to ensure effective implementation of all activities.


  • Ensure effective project and process management.
  • Coordinate the completion of multiple tasks and projects by prioritizing, developing, and implementing a work plan, summarizing, and presenting the outcomes.
  • Prepares and monitors budgets.
  • Develop and implement key metrics to measure and report on the progress of initiatives and special projects.
  • Coordinate preparation of relevant agenda and materials for meeting, various forums and committee assignments.
  • Create a culture of service excellence focused on defining, understanding, and consistently satisfying the requirements of both internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate with team members to resolve business problems, evaluate issues, mitigate risks, and facilitate decision-making.
  • Identify trends and process improvement opportunities across departments within operations.
  • Function collaboratively within department and with colleagues across Translational Science-UPMCe, University of Pittsburgh, Office of Innovation, Univerity of Pittsburgh Physicians, Department of the Chief Innovation Officer, and other areas with a high attention to detail in all areas required.
  • Involved in process for recruiting and retaining qualified staff members
  • Review scheduling, filing, and maintenance of documentation and incoming information.
  •  Assist with scheduling performance evaluation of leadership within the department including preparation of annual performance reviews.
  • Review upcoming and routine meeting schedule and prepare appropriate documentation regarding subject matter.
  • Review and maintain statistical reports as necessary for tracking department’s budget. Review of budget reports and allocations as necessary.
  • Coordinate appropriate dissemination of information at all levels of the organization.
  • Obtain information from outside agencies and institutions as necessary.  Maintain appropriate contacts with outside organizations as well as internal system departments.
  • Complete any other special projects as assigned. Provide leadership, oversight and direction for assigned special projects.
  • Collaborate to identify opportunities for improving costs and efficiency while developing recommendation to drive significant operational changes.
  • Operations and Facilities Management
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in a manner, which coincides with the service management philosophy of UPMC, including the demonstration of The Basics of Service Excellence towards visitors, staff, peers, physicians, and others within and outside UPMC
  • Manage assigned direct reports
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors
  • Performs other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor's degree required. 
  • Post-graduate degree preferred.
  • At least five years’ experience in project or program management required.
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently.
  • Must possess technical and professional skills in management, as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with associates at all levels within the organization.
  • High level of enthusiasm, initiative, motivation, and self-direction required.
  • Effective planning and organizational skills required.
  • Thorough knowledge and use of various PC applications required
