Description

Are you an experienced project manager who has managed complex clinical projects?  If yes then we want you!  We're hiring a Senior Project Manager for our Office of Health Care Innovation (OHI).  This is a regular, full-time position that primarily works daylight hours, Monday through Friday.

In this role, the Senior Project Manager provides internal direction, leadership, and accountability for project management efforts among operations as well as across the system.  They define project objectives and measures to be tracked by the responsible business owners and develop and maintain detailed project plans.  They are able to anticipate key business issues, leverage solutions from dependent and related projects and generate new perspectives, frameworks or innovations that enable problem resolution. The Senior PM dynamically leads presentations and work sessions to positively influence decisions and perceptions.  They manage in ambiguous situations with minimal direction, and build, direct and maintain motivated and diverse teams.

About the Office of Health Care Innovation:  The OHI’s goal is to create a culture of “Learning While Doing”, by leveraging the UPMC system as a learning lab to continuously evaluate and adopt best care practices, with a particular focus on underserved communities, while paving the way for UPMC to become a leading Learning Health Care system. The OHI team works across disciplines at UPMC and Pitt, and partners with leading international experts in trial design, artificial intelligence, and clinical operations to translate and integrate research into clinical care.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with other managers to achieve efficiencies across integration of projects.
  • Understand, analyze, and structure undefined, complex, and politically sensitive projects.
  • Take lead role in supporting team members in resolving project problems, escalate issues when necessary, and facilitate decision-making.
  • Recognize and act decisively in urgent matters; make tough decision which may influence the direction of the project.
  • Monitor operating performance against regional and national benchmarks.Perform cost/benefit analysis.Provide concise and timely status reporting as required
  • Manage system/enterprise level initiatives with senior and executive leaders: delegate appropriate level of autonomy and decision - ensure that project issues are promptly and effectively handled and quality of work is achieved.
  • Identify trends and process improvement opportunities across departments within operations.
  • Develop and implement key metrics to measure and report on progress of initiatives.Develop and maintain detailed project plans, this includes utilizing standard project documentation and methodology and project tracking and reporting procedures.Develop cross-functional, change management and implementation strategies; ensure that all of the participating parties have committed to effective implementation of the processes and procedures.
  • Create an environment that fosters compliance with accepted PMO methodologies and reflects industry best practice.
  • Contribute to ensuring Operations division strategic goals as well as system strategic goals are on track and achievable. Cooperate closely with business leaders and/or relevant experts in resolving issues and organizing, tracking and completing projects on time and on budget.
  • Anticipate project issues, assess alternatives, and take appropriate measures to resolve in a professional, tactful manner. Assure quality of information through business case and application level testing; validate test results to initial business needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, mathematics, statistics, health care, management, or related business field required.
  • Master's degree preferred (5+ years' experience will be considered).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification required.
  • Minimum of five years of related work experience. 
  • Experience in health care insurance or health care industry preferred.
  • Excellent Project Management skills along with effective planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent computer skills required, including Visio, Excel, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Teams and other pertinent computer software packages.
  • Strong management, problem solving, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written) are required.
  • Ability to perform planning for large initiatives/projects, managing all tasks required to providing services to meet client and business needs within budget and targeted deadlines.
