As an Activities Director with UPMC, you will work with the staff and other personnel to bring social, religious, educational, cultural, and recreational activities to every resident, appropriate to their ability, background, and taste. In addition, this position works collaboratively with the Marketing Department and Development to coordinate special events, build a volunteer base, and promote a community outreach programs.
Heritage Place is located in Squirrel Hill, we are right on the bus line and close to Oakland!

  • Supervise activities staff so that the department operates smoothly, providing quality service including selection, orientation, training and evaluation of staff and student volunteers.
  • Facilitate communication between residents, staff, and administration through various media.
  • Provide an ongoing program of meaningful activities appropriate to the needs and interests of residents.
  • Develop and initiates a plan to have gift shop services available for residents and families at least five days per week.
  • Oversee the operation of the beauty shop and monthly rental remittance.
  • Establish and maintain an atmosphere of caring, concern and support for residents, staff, visitors and peers, demonstrating on a consistent basis the behaviors, which comprise The Basics for Services Excellence.
  • Complete resident activity plan in accordance with the recommendations and cautions of the resident's attending physician to ensure that it is not in conflict with the treatment plan. The activity plan should be incorporated into the overall plan of care.
  • Complete all required paperwork in a timely fashion.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and other mandatory meetings of Canterbury Place.
  • Facilitate and collaborate with chaplaincy service to provide residents with the opportunity to practice their faith. Act as direct line report for facility Chaplain.
  • Develop annual capital and operating budgets for assigned areas and manages budgets in accordance with budgetary guidelines, providing explanation and/or justification for any variances.



  • B.A. degree is required.

  • 2 years experience in the activities department of a long-term care facility.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and to be able to prioritize effectively.

  • Tact courtesy and patience is to be shown at all times when dealing with residents, guests, staff, and co-workers.

  • Enjoy working with people, especially the elderly.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Activity Director Certified OR Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist
