Description

Purpose:
UPMC’s Corporate Communications Department is seeking a Manager, Internal Communications to be responsible for handling a variety of internal communications to our 90,000+ employees. This role will develop and implement communications strategies for internal audiences and maintain the company’s intranet.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a communications counselor (consultant) to internal UPMC clients.
  • Manage all facets of communications projects for UPMC internal clients, including print, digital, special events, or video. This role will have a particular focus on Information Technology changes.
  • Manage web projects of varying levels of complexity and sophistication, collaborating with departmental communications managers, clients across UPMC, and technical teams.
  • Ability to keep the user experience top of mind while completing projects
  • Identify and recommend website improvements.
  • Contribute to intranet content operations — including information onboarding, regular improvements, and auditing — while ensuring usability, accuracy, accessibility, and discoverability 
  • Monitor project budgets; handle approvals and other client relations and take responsibility for accuracy and effectiveness of information communicated.
  • Edit and/or write copy appropriate for the audience and the channel publications, letters, advertisements, audio/visual presentations, speeches, and other communication programs.
  • Independently advise internal clients.
  • Manage the research, writing, design, and production of any materials.
  • Implement communication plans for programs by managing multi-faceted projects.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in other departments.
  • Develop methods to evaluate communications projects based on effectiveness and cost/benefits and document the results.
  • Develop and implement targeted communication strategies to support the organization's enterprise-wide objectives.
  • Contribute to the team’s overall goal of overseeing the identification, creation, structure, curation, compliance, and sharing of all digital knowledge within the enterprise. This includes general business and clinical information across teams, departments, and systemwide, with the goal of creating a better digital workplace for staff.
  • Prepare strategies to achieve communication goals.
  • Adhere to all department processes as established for editing content, submitting to publications, supporting intranet governance, and other processes as outlined by department leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, English, health sciences or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in communications or related field required.
  • Project Management experience required.
  • Experience providing clients with strategic marketing counsel required.
  • Professional communication experiences a plus.
  • Experience in an academic medical center, hospital or health care industry is preferred.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills required.
