Are you an experienced Database Administrator looking for an exciting role that will allow you to have an immediate impact on the future of clinical care? If so, we want you on our team! UPMC's Office of Health Care Innovation team (OHI) is hiring a DBA Architect. This is a regular full-time position that primarily works daylight hours, Monday through Friday.
 
The Database Administrator Architect position requires a high degree of technical expertise in the design, development, and implementation of strategy when working with projects. Contributes to strategic leadership planning and leads feasibility analysis on potential future projects. The DBA will work to resolve technical issues that directly impact the database software and works with other technical staff to resolve the most complex issues. This role will require an experienced DBA background with a solid understanding of Oracle.
 
The Office of Health Care Innovation (OHI):  Functions at the intersection of clinical care and research to enhance UPMC’s position as a world leader in the delivery of patient care. The OHI’s goal is to create a culture of “Learning While Doing”, by leveraging the UPMC system as a learning lab to continuously evaluate and adopt best care practices, with a particular focus on underserved communities, while paving the way for UPMC to become a leading Learning Health Care System. The OHI team works across disciplines at UPMC and Pitt, and partners with leading international experts in trial design, artificial intelligence, and clinical operations to translate and integrate research into clinical care

Responsibilities:
  • Strategy & Innovation - Provides strategic direction, guidance and integration of products and services related to a technology domain. Understands Departmental and Organizational goals and alignments as related to the technology domain.
  • Complexity of Work - Design and implementation of integrated technical solutions utilizing the capabilities of related technology domains. Contributes to the development of technical strategies for the sub-function. Maintains an awareness of the future direction of all related technologies, and assesses how to employ new functionality.
  • Scope of Influence - Execution, design and thinking into a technology domain. Management, Administration, execution and integration of technology domain that supports the responsibilities of the related team.
  • Knowledge & Skill - Typically possesses seven years of relevant work experience. Requires technical mastery and business knowledge in a given technology domain and has an operational understanding of supporting technology domains. Solves complex technical problems. Develops and executes technical plans aligning with the business strategies.
  • Community Presence/Eminence - Participates in a job-related community and brings knowledge back to the team demonstrated though presentation of learned material within the team. Initiates contacts with key technologists and other subject matter experts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field with 7 years of relevant work experience OR 11 years total relevant work experience.
  • Holds deep technical mastery and business knowledge across a technology domain.
  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to combine broad technical, business, clinical and political factors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and possesses good presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct the implementation of diverse technologies in a complex organization.
  • Diplomacy and interpersonal skills to lead others to provide inputs for the purpose of sharing with customers, partners, and higher management on vision and need for key technologies.
  • Demonstrated experiences innovating beyond the state of the art.
  • Maximizing technical efficiency and setting technical direction.
Preferred Qualification: 
  • Demonstrated experience with large data sets, ETL process and data integration strategies, Oracle Database Administration, SQL Server or similar RDBMS, PL/SQL or similar scripting language and proficient in SQL
