Purpose:

UPMC Center for Community Hospitalist Medicine (CCHM) and UPMC Innovative Homecare Solutions (UIHS) are now accepting ABIM/AOBIM/ABFM Board Eligible/Board Certified physicians for an exciting hospitalist medicine leadership opportunity with UPMC’s Home Assessment and Response Team (HART) and Hospital at Home (HaH) Program.

Description:

  • Provide administrative leadership for the program with a focus on meeting performance measures and standards.  Assist program in ensuring uniform standards of practice and performance with respect to patient care processes.
  • Lead the development of policies and procedures for the HART/HaH Program.
  • Support programs’ mission, vision, plans, and, in collaboration with UPMC Health Plan, UIHS Leadership, Clinical Staff, and other appropriate participants, participate in and make recommendations regarding the provision of patient care services by Hospitalists within HART/HaH.
  • Monitor the quality, safety and appropriateness of care provided by Hospitalists and other healthcare providers.  Cooperate with UIHS in the collection of information regarding patient and family satisfaction with HART/HaH services provided and review aggregated data.  Act in an appropriate fashion to address any identified deficiencies in care provided or in overall patient satisfaction.
  • Serve as a liaison between the clinical staff and other departments of the program to assure timely communications, adherence to standards and policies and the promotion of collegial relationships.  Assist with relationship building, fostering positive interactions, and problem resolution.
  • Coordinate education programs for clinical staff members and regarding inpatient medicine as reasonably requested.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary, interdepartmental performance-improvement activities within the program.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with administration and staff to provide clinical expertise and support when needed or requested.
  • Review and advise on proper coding for professional services provided by clinical staff, participate in audits and maintain compliance with sound fiscal practices.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by CCHM or UIHS.
  • In addition to administrative duties, Medical Director will also be responsible for clinical commitment whereas the physician will treat patients from admission to the program through discharge, conducting history and physical assessments, strategizing to improve and/or manage patient health, and attempting to avoid their stay in the hospital through safe medical practices and recommended treatment plans. Physician will work as part of a team with physicians and EMTs.

Qualifications

  • Licensure, Certifications and Clearances:
  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
  • BLS, ACLS Certified
  • Must qualify for a medical license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative leadership for the program with a focus on meeting performance measures and standards.  Assist UIHS in ensuring uniform standards of practice and performance with respect to patient care processes.
  • Attend all administrative meetings at CCHM and UIHS as directed by CCHM and UIHS
  • Prepare monthly schedule and ensure that all physicians and APPs meet their coverage commitments. 
  • Minimize overtime of Hospitalists supporting UIHS programs. 
  • Lead the development of policies and procedures for the UIHS Programs.
  • Supervise Hospitalists as necessary and appropriate.
  • Support UIHS’s mission, vision and plans, and, in collaboration with UIHS, Medical Staff, and other appropriate participants, participate in and make recommendations regarding the provision of patient care services by Hospitalists for UIHS programs.
  • In collaboration with UIHS, monitor the quality, safety and appropriateness of care provided by Hospitalists in UIHS  programs.  Cooperate with UIHS in the collection of information regarding patient and family satisfaction with services provided, and review aggregated data.  Act in an appropriate fashion to address any identified deficiencies in care provided or in overall patient satisfaction.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Medical Staff, hospitals and UIHS programs and clinician teams and other areas of UIHS to assure timely communications, adherence to standards and policies and the promotion of collegial relationships.  Assist with relationship building, fostering positive interactions, and problem resolution.
