University of Pittsburgh Physicians is seeking a full-time Research Coordinator to support the Department of Radiology at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital!

The Research Coordinator will be involved in and support patient-related studies and multiple projects, specifically working with imaging, screenings, and contrast enhancements for breast cancer detection and diagnosed breast cancer cases.

Ideally, the Research Coordinator will have flexibility adjusting their schedule to accommodate research imaging request timeframes, sometimes working early mornings and later in the evenings to maintain productivity while working cohesively with the UPMC imaging network.

This position will involve heavy contact with study participants, specifically with the recruitment of patients for studies. The Research Coordinator will conduct potential participant outreach, schedule appointments, administer research questionnaires, follow up with participants and explain results, and set up additional images, biopsies, and so on.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting in quality control procedures, managing databases and reports, tracking outcome information and results, reading and verifying pathology reports, sending images to Radiology, collecting and entering data, and general clinical research assistance.

The ideal candidate for this position will have exceptional interpersonal, communication, organization, and multitasking skills. Previous experience with participant/study recruitment is preferred, as are proficient Excel and data organization skills. Flexibility in schedule is highly preferred, while strong attention to detail is vital for this role.


  • Perform duties for approved research projects according to defined protocols and procedures, including appropriate collection, recording, and storage of data.
  • Assist in hypothesis generation, data collection, data analysis, and data presentation and publication.
  • Complete online IRB certification modules 1 and 2 (Research Practice Fundamentals) in accordance with Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh.
  • Assist in data collection and data entry, and quality control of data.
  • Process, label, store, and ship blood specimens obtained from research subjects.
  • Revise, renew, and maintain IRB approval, protocols, and consent forms for studies.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory, including timely ordering and receipt of required supplies and their proper storage.
  • Administer questionnaires and assist with procedures for obtaining patient screening and recruitment, as well as obtaining research specimens.
  • Maintain a safe, clean laboratory-working environment, including appropriate equipment maintenance and usage, by conforming to laboratory and hospital policies and standards.
  • Follow appropriate research policies and procedures, including all applicable laws and regulations, and maintain scientific integrity including accurate data storage.
  • Follow the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.



  • Bachelor's Degree OR equivalent combination of experience and training, including 3-5 years of experience in coordinating multiple aspects of research projects (patient recruitment, assessment, treatment planning, and data collection), required.
  • Phlebotomy skills are a plus.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office products).
  • IRB experience preferred.
  • Ability to accurately collect and store research data.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with patients, staff, and investigators, as well as maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and must be able to work a flexible schedule based on study needs.
  • Ability to interact with patients/study participants and research and medical staff.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and cognition over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
  • Ability to provide the care needs as described in the department's policy and procedures.
