Quality Improvement Specialist (RN) - Stem Cell Transplant & CAR-T Prgm. - (Lemieux Ctr.)

Description

Purpose:

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is currently hiring for a regular Full-Time Quality Improvement Specialist (RN) to help support the Lemieux Center in Shadyside/Pittsburgh, PA.  This Quality role will work with the Stem Cell Transplant  & CAR-T Program team at the Mario Lemieux Center within the Hillman Cancer Center with a regular full-time Monday-Friday daylight schedule.

The Quality Improvement Specialist will support multidisciplinary quality improvement functions with the Stem Cell Transplant and CAR-T Cell Therapy groups to achieve the highest quality and best possible outcomes for the patient and to support the various functions related to development, implementation and evaluation of performance improvement initiatives.


Responsibilities:

FACT

  • Quarterly FACT Reports (authoring and compiling) and Minutes
  • Ensure regulatory compliance by working closely with providers, nursing managers (IP and OP), collections (Vitalant), stem cell processing (HSCT and IMCPL), and SCT support staff
  • Responsible for ongoing review/revision of the Quality Management Plan, as required by FACT
  • Oversight and implementation of 270+ BMT-related SOP’s and additional controlled documents
  • Ensure MD, APP (IP / OP), Pharm D, and RN’s comply with SCT-specific annual CEU requirements
  • Audits
  • Annual Report to submit to FACT
  • Renewal application and site survey

REMS for CAR-T Cell Products

  • Initial training for all who prescribe, dispense, and administer commercial products
  • Organize training for new fellows, hospitalists, and nursing staff for all CAR-T products
  • Internal and manufacturer audits/surveys
  • Operationalization of REMS compliance for each product
  • Program compliance

Quality

  • Lead performance improvement initiatives as they relate to BMT quality and outcomes.
  • Generate recommendations to address deficiencies in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Document and report audit findings, errors, accidents and adverse reactions reports, complaints, outcome analysis. Create Corrective Action Plans when indicated.
  • Collect and analyze programmatic data, including ongoing GVHD initiative.
  • Create custom chemo orders/grids for new SCT conditioning regimens/ individualized treatments, and new CAR-T cell products.
  • Revise/develop consents / patient facing materials
  • Partner with IT to develop CART banner/notes and other functionality
  • Maintain CART monthly referral list weekly CART summary, weekly CART slides for physician meetings

Research

  • Assist with research initiatives from attending physicians (gathering/providing data).
  • Creation of chemo orders/grids for protocols
  • eINDs for out of spec CART products

Misc:

  • Management of Auto Intake list/troubleshoot finance and authorization issues for CART and autotransplant
  • Quarterly finance transplant report on active/inactive SCT and CAR-T cases
  • Assist with implementation of new procedures (i.e., COVID testing, “stem cell boosts,” etc), individual patient needs (i.e., interpreters and translation of consents/education materials), and other physician requests that do not fit into the normal workflow.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Business Administration or related field required at time of hire/transfer
  • 5 years of related experience required
  • Oncology and/or Transplant experience preferred
  • Knowledge of information systems and process improvement techniques.
  • Must be able to demonstrate skills to understand and interpret data
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families. Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
  • Exemplary critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others. Mobility and visual manual dexterity.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
UPMC approved national certification preferred.
