Nursing Home Administrator, Sherwood Oaks

Description

Sherwood Oaks is hiring a full-time Nursing Home Administrator to help support their beautiful, Cranberry Township campus. The incumbent will manage administration and operation of the assigned skilled nursing unit at the facility. The individual will assume responsibility for the planning, organizing, directing and controlling the delivery and quality care in compliance with the operational goals of Senior Communities.

This position is primarily daylight hours Monday-Friday. The person in this role must be flexible for calls during off-shifts.

The Nursing Home Administrator has administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability for the function and activities of all personnel providing services on the Skilled Nursing Unit. The Administrator will ensure all residents on the Skilled Nursing Unit receive the services needed to attain and maintain their highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. Maintains 24 hour/day accountability for Skilled Nursing Unit. Promotes the mission of Sherwood Oaks with all staff and residents and functions as a role model for all personnel.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Establish a system of daily rounds to monitor the quality of service provided to residents.
  • Oversee and coordinate efforts of all professional staff when they are providing services to Skilled Nursing residents including, Nursing, Social Services, Activities, Rehabilitation, Dining Services, Maintenance and Environmental Services.
  • Identify staff learning needs and establish in-service education to fulfill these needs.
  • Assure compliance with all regulatory agencies and the current union contract.
  • Function as Chairperson of the Functional Assessment Committee and assuring all residents are at the appropriate level of care. Notify residents or responsible party of activities related to the functional assessment process.
  • Maintain compliance with all aspects of the current union contract on Skilled Nursing Unit.
  • Maintain ongoing communications with the Executive Director of the organization and with other professional and supervisory staff members through regularly scheduled meetings and periodic reports.
  • Monitor the bed availability on the Nursing Unit to facilitate transfers to the appropriate level of service and preparation of rooms for future resident use. Establish procedures to provide bed availability for unforeseen week end and night admissions from the independent living units.
  • Adopt and enforce rules and regulations concerning residents health care and safety as well as the protection of their personal and property rights. Obtain responsibility/accountability to maintain licensure for Nursing Units.
  • Establish and implement resident care policies, personnel policies, and other Sherwood Oaks policies.
  • Responsible for monitoring financial management for Skilled Nursing Unit and maintaining effective cost control strategies (vendor selection, competitive pricing, inventory control and recovery of lost charges) and revenue generation. This includes intervening in establishment and monitoring Medicare cost centers to recover and bill all appropriate charges.
  • Evaluate and implement, as appropriate, any recommendations from the facility's ommittees and consultants.
  • Maintain a file for all incident reports which contains date, time and nature of incident, circumstances under which incident occurred, actions taken and other essential information. Each report shall be signed by the physician, Nursing Director and Administrator.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled meeting with all staff members and keep recorded minutes.
  • Maintain a file on all resident concerns/complaints and follow up action taken or appropriate interventions.
  • Function as Chairperson for all standing committees, Infection Control, Pharmacy, Quality Assessment, and Resident Care Council. Functions as a member of the center wide Safety Committee.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled Resident and Family Council meetings to establish open communication.
  • Designate a person to act in their absence so that administrative direction is provided at all times and establishes an administrative on-call schedule.
  • Oversee and assist the Staff Development Coordinator in the nurse aide training program to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and provision of quality of care.

 

Qualifications

  • BA Degree in a health related field required.
  • 2 or more years of experience in a management position in a licensed nursing home.
  • Prior experience as an Administrator Assistant Administrator or Director of Nursing preferred.
  • Full body range of motion required.
  • Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination required.
  • Vision and hearing corrected to normal range is required.
  • Subject to moderate physical and emotional stress due to the normal office environment.
  • Demonstrate appreciation for the elderly, and the ability to accept and promote the mission and philosophy of Sherwood Oaks required.
  • Knowledgeable of all regulations governing nursing facilities and personal care units and a knowledge of reimbursement systems for geriatric services required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with all groups of people. Knowledge of management and quality improvement principles required.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR certification required within 90 days of employment

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
