UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Manager, Clinical Services - Behavioral Health Inpatient Service Line

UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is seeking a dynamic leader to assist in the management of the Behavioral Health Service Line within the UPMC Health System. This position will be based in our hospital in the Oakland location of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but will require travel to the UPMC Hospitals within the Behavioral Health umbrella.

The Manager of Clinical Services is the caption of our Behavioral Health Inpatient clinical teams, fostering operational health by effectively managing clinical and administrative concerns. The responsibilities include managerial oversight, staffing, and daily operations.

A strong clinician with keen problem-solving and leadership skills, the Manager of Clinical Services uses research and evidence-based practice to improve patient outcomes. This proven leader will collaborate with the clinical staff and senior management to set goals, design action plans for improvement, and implement practical changes in a manner that is respectful of staff and encourages full participation at all levels.



  • Participates in management meetings and service committees as assigned by supervisor.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Receives feedback and direction constructively. Serves as a formal and informal mentor for new students and staff
  • Participates in department-based performance improvement projects.
  • Improves knowledge, skills and performance based on feedback or on self-identified developmental needs.
  • Demonstrates a high level of initiative, works independently, and establishes priorities to meet department and organizational goals.
  • Demonstrates awareness of the impact of his/her behavior on the efficient functioning of the department and organization.
  • Willing to take the leading role in major hospital-wide projects and part of leadership group.
  • Assumes responsibility for complex assignments and views problems as challenges.
  • Applies creative and innovative strategies in problem-solving to achieve desired goals.
  • Coordinates, plans, develops, and implements managerial procedures.
  • Manages day to day operations of assigned areas.
  • Provides clinical oversight and decision-making.
  • Assists in teaching staff/students and instructor's role/limits on how to manage the care of patients including assessment, interdisciplinary planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, teaching and discharge planning while observing.
  • Provides oversight and ongoing monitoring of retention and recruitment initiatives and outcome measures.
  • Encouraging students/staff in the pursuit of education.
  • Establishes appropriate and effective communication strategies.
  • Establishes and maintains professional and respectful interpersonal relationships.
  • Actively participates on intra- and interdisciplinary teams to achieve organizational goals.



  • BSN or Bachelor's Degree in Human Services related field required.
  • RN license preferred
  • Two years of leadership experince preferred 
  • Demonstrated competence in professional psychiatric practice (at least 4 years clinical experience)
  • Prior Management experience preferred

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
