EVS Recruitment/Training Coordinator


Responsible for managing, coordinating, and implementing training and retention programs for systemwide Environmental Services to promote employee growth, development, and retention. The Trainer will plan, organize, execute, and monitor all training and regulatory activities along with the management and allocation of staff to maintain the highest possible sanitary standards and positive public relations, by creating a clean, attractive, and safe environment for patients, employees and visitors.



  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide policies/procedures.
  • Investigate and respond to complaints from a system perspective as necessary and take appropriate action to correct problems and establish action plans to eliminate future occurrences.
  • Assist with Joint Commission training and validation ensuring compliance with state, federal and other regulatory requirements, and guidelines. Implement an ongoing 52 week focus for reinforcement of employee best practices.
  • Provide weekly and monthly documentation reports and updates to EVS Management teams. Manage and maintain an update new hire calendar.
  • Partner with EVS admins to evaluate, select, inventory, and procure the necessary supplies, equipment, and materials needed to effectively carry out each facility functions.
  • Provide follow up on all incidents of improper procedures, waste disposal, and servicing by written documentation and in conjunction with Safety Manager of hospital.
  • Monitor the systems responsibilities regarding the transport and disposal of infectious and solid waste. Keep abreast of new information regarding laws and regulations governing the disposal of bio-hazardous and chemotherapeutic waste.
  • 13. Overseeing, managing, and coaching, associate level trainers to ensure proper training related guidance on policies and procedures.
  • 12. Partner with Talent Acquisition in the recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding of new EVS associates. Support EVS Management teams in the absence of managerial staff.
  • Act as liaison between EVS Department and Infection Prevention, providing IP related policy and procedure updates. Partner with the EICI regarding training and onboarding of new EVS graduates.
  • Act as liaison for the Career Counselor in facilitating career growth opportunities. Track all staff training and development, updating employee records weekly for necessary employee performance evaluation and review.
  • Consult with Administration and management peers regarding the functions of the department in their areas of responsibility to ensure customer satisfaction. Travel to designated facilities for routine evaluation of operational, regulatory, and procedural efficiency as needed.
  • Hold annual management training and identify new training resources and programs to address existing needs of all individual EVS personnel. Provide ongoing evaluation, inspection, and training of AIDET+Promise for all staff.
  • Communicate with system leadership all related policy changes, new procedures, standards of performance, and departmental/UPMC activities.
  • Conduct all new hire orientation and follow ups, including 30/60/90-day touch points to ensure effective employee retention. Organize and conduct safety training seminars for EVS staff.
  • Providing feedback to individuals in the Trainer or Buddy Program roles. Develop, implement, and evaluate the EVS Orientation Program. Utilize good problem-solving skills to adapt to new training methods.
  • Assist with system wide retention and engagement initiatives. Assists in creating, evaluating, and implementing system wide Environmental Services policies and procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and continually reassess the ongoing educational needs of the EVS Department staff and support personnel. Hold Management team members accountable to ensure their staff is compliant with training related needs.
  • Develop and maintain learning resources including printed materials, audio/visual software, and equipment. Provide and encourage training to continue personal and professional growth for all associates.
  • Designs and trains EVS associates regarding cleaning procedures, floor care procedures, meeting set-ups, waste management, and Tele-tracking software functions with consideration of the size and physical layout of each facility and task frequencies required.



HS Diploma/GED required, Bachelor's preferred 4 years relevant experience required 2 years relevant leadership experience required. Must be able to accommodate flexible scheduling including off shifts, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to travel to various UPMC facilities for training, including overnight stays. Strong computer skills, overhead projector, and ability to attend zoom / teams meetings. Good oral/written communication skills
