Chef

Description

Purpose:
Coordinate and assist with the activities of assigned personnel involved with preparation, service and clean-up of food for retail operations, patient service and/or catered events provided by the UPMC Food Service Department.

Responsibilities:

 

  •   

    1. Prepare high quality, well presented meals from scratch for the residents, visitors, and managers using high quality raw ingredients, while adhering to corporate recipes.  Have the ability to prepare and present attractive, flavorful foods for activity and marketing events.
    2. In the absence of the Dietary Manager, independently supervise Dietary Staff which includes Dishwashers, and Food Service Workers.
    3. Dedicate oneself to the continuous improvement of a successful food service program by thinking creatively and maintaining the existing high standards that the company has set.
    4. Maintain a clean, sanitary work environment while meeting all standards established by the Department of                      Health.
    5. Oversee the preparation of the serving carts, including proper breakdown, food storage and sanitation. 
    6. Serve meals according to time schedule with proper portions and attractive garnish. 
    7. Manage leftover food following safe food handling procedures, properly cooling products and storing at safe     temperatures. 
    8. Clean and sanitize all cooking utensils and work areas after use. 
    9. Be aware of the location and use of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
    10. ServeSafe certification will be required after hire and renewed every five years. 
    11. Attend and participate in monthly resident meetings and staff meetings. 
    12. Be polite and courteous to all residents.

Qualifications

HS diploma/GED required Formal culinary training with cert./degree preferred 2 years quantity food prep. experience required

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Servsafe Certified
  • Act 34
  • OAPSA
