Research Project Assistant (YoungMoms)


The YoungMoms Research Study is devoted to better understanding younger women’s perinatal health and the impact of the pandemic, discrimination, and substance use on maternal and infant outcomes. The lab is within the Department of Psychiatry. The Research Project Assistant will be responsible for screening, recruiting, and consenting participants. Data collection involves online surveys and interviews conducted in person, by telephone, and video chat. Other duties include scheduling interviews, locating and contacting subjects, managing participant payments with the University payment system, mailing research study documents to participants, abstracting medical record data, and project administrative tasks.

Organizational skills, good time management, the ability to work in a team setting, punctuality, and professional communication are required. Preferred candidates will be detailed-oriented, personable, and non-judgmental, with experience interviewing young pregnant women and/or adolescents. The ideal candidate would be familiar with drug use terms and the electronic health record (EPIC). Some occasional evening and weekend hours may be required for interviews.


  • Access an electronic research study database to determine if a participant is eligible for the study.
  • Assist with recruitment by telephone, text, and email, scheduling appointments for interviews, and obtaining written or verbal consent,
  • Collecting data by sending participants a link to an online survey, and conducting videochat, telephone, or face-to-face interviews.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow proper data management procedures in the research study, including updating the study’s electronic database with each contact, consent, payment, survey and interview completed.  
  • Other related duties as assigned in connection with research.


  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in psychology, neuroscience, sociology or related research field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
  • Prior supervisory and/or project management experience preferred.
  • Prior related work experience in a research setting preferred

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
