Research Associate (MacDonald Lab)


The Neuroproteomics laboratory is seeking a full time Research Associate to assist in cutting-edge investigations of the human brain directed towards understanding the alterations in brain circuitry that occur in schizophrenia and autism. The MacDonald laboratory at the Department of Psychiatry utilizes innovative mass spectrometry-based proteomics approaches to investigate synaptic protein networks in psychiatric diseases. The laboratory is looking for a Research Associate who will assist with research activities utilizing human brain tissue and model systems. As a member of our research group, the successful candidate will receive training in mass spectrometry and molecular biology techniques, and will be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary research department that provides multiple opportunities for professional development and growth. 

This position is granted funded.


  • Dissect, process, store, and organize brain tissue
  • Perform protein extraction and preparation of samples for liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry
  • General laboratory maintenance including cleaning glassware, disposing of chemical and biologic waste, maintaining stocks and inventories of reagents and solutions, maintaining mouse colonies
  • Maintain a laboratory notebook
  • Perform in accordance with system-wide competencies/behavior
  • Perform other duties as assigned


  • Bachelors Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Counseling, Sociology or related research field or current enrollment in a related Bachelor's Degree program with direct experience in a research environment required.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
  • Experience working in a Neuroscience, Neuropathology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry or related science laboratory strongly preferred. 
  • Prior related work experience in a research setting preferred.
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred.
