Director, Operations

Description

Purpose:
Based primarily at UPMC Jameson this position is responsible for the organization and administration of the regional hospital based clinics and support services along with other areas as assigned. Assists the President with developing plans and controls the day to day operations of the business unit in compliance with federal, state, local laws and the stated directives and policies of the Hospital. Provides management oversight for the development of high quality, cost effective and integrated programs within the hospital and affiliate organizations.


Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
  • Conveys courtesy, respect, enthusiasm and positive attitudes with patients, staff, medical staff and visitors.
  • Participates in developing a corporate culture of patient and staff satisfaction, empowerment, problem solving and accountability.
  • Monitors operating statistics and patterns to identify trends and changes across the business unit.
  • Oversees new construction, renovation projects and building utilization. Assists VPO in assessing existing needs and plans for new programs and services to support the needs of UPMC Jameson and UPMC Horizon.
  • Provides oversight to departmental staff, ensure performance evaluations and establish performance goals and development plans.
  • Ensure compliance with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (JCAHO, OSHA, CLIA, DOH, HFAP, etc).
  • Prepare, monitor, and approve personnel, operating and capital budgets for each department within his/her area of accountability.
  • Assure the development of goals and objectives for assigned areas/departments are in alignment with the mission, vision and values of the hospital.
  • Maintains organizational focus on quality initiative and results through required performance improvement projects.
  • Uses internal and external replenishment systems and processes to impact product acquisition and assists in annual review of capital requests.
  • Develops and maintains operational policies and procedures for various departments and support areas.
  • Manages day to day operations and establishes criteria for setting organization-wide priorities; defining goals and objectives for selected initiatives.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration/Health Administration or related field.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of health care or experience required. or Masters degree with 2 years experience and associated healthcare administration fellowship from and accredited program.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
