Description

Purpose:
Obtain detailed information from patients and perform a variety of diagnostic tests to the eyes to aid in the diagnosis and treatment course. We will consider all levels of career ladder.  The final title and pay will be determined experience and certifications.

Responsibilities:

  • Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
  • Contact lenses: insertion, removal and instructions
  • Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.
  • History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.
  • Lensometry: automated and manual
  • Angle assessment & dilation of pupils
  • Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.
  • Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields
  • Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare test
  • Ocular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus
  • Tonometry: Icare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of
  • Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity
  • Operates all standard ophthalmic imaging, testing, and photography equipment available within the UPMC Eye Center's. Including but not limited to OCT, HRT, HVF,GDX, UBM, Fundus photography, Ascans, and 3-D Ultrasound. Will also be required to stay curr
  • Responsible to generate high quality ophthalmic images and accurate clinical testing results from imaging modalities and facilitate delivery of the information to the requesting party as required for clinical and research purposes.
  • Responsible to certify and maintain certification and participation in all current and on going research studies being performed in the ocular imaging lab. Ensures that all data collection is obtained within the guidelines of HIPAA and that all study pro
  • Enhances customer satisfaction through positive verbalization, professionalism and tact.
  • May be required to travel to satellite offices to perform a wide range of imaging, testing, and or photography as required.
  • Ensures that all equipment is in operating order and that all preventative maintenance is up to date. Alerts management of any issues for prompt resolution.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred.
  • Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Valid CPR certification
 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 34
