UPMC is actively hiring a Senior Software Test Engineer to support the Health Plan's Consumer Technology Team.
 
The primary role of the Software Engineer, Senior (Quality Assurance) is to validate requirements for given features within a project to ensure compliance with quality standards and customer needs. This individual will take ownership of their projects’ test strategy, review requirements, design test cases, program automation scripts, and execute tests in an Agile/SCRUM based environment.  
 
The role will require a broad background in computer science, the application of different automation programming languages and tools, the ability to adapt and change, and an aptitude for continuous learning

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute test cases, scripts, plans and procedures (manual and automated) for multiple diverse web-based and mobile applications
  • Define, apply, and enforce standard procedures and best practices for software testing quality assurance
  • Troubleshooting - Solve multiple issues concurrently. Coordinate, delegate, and mentor less experienced staff with issue resolution.
  • Documentation - Create detail-oriented documentation that outlines new and moderately complex processes. Responsible for the quality and validity of documentation.
  • Project Management - Has ownership in the success of projects. Responsible for estimating and delivering on individual task within the project. Shows the ability to be responsible for project timelines.
  • Software Solutions - Develop, validate and implement software solutions based on customer requirements, Enterprise architecture standards, and defined project designs.
  • Quality - Demonstrate the ability to conduct code reviews of others.
  • Application Development Cycle - Demonstrate the understanding of multiple SDLCs.
  • Design - Implement the overall system design. Exhibit awareness of user experience standards.
  • Research and identify root causes, and advocate for the bug/software changes that will enhance the stability of supported applications and the overall customer experience
  • Define, apply, and enforce standard procedures and best practices for software testing quality assurance
  • Participate in Scrum meetings and processes, analyze requirements, and plan/estimate QA efforts
  • Communication - Responsible for demonstrating appropriate, clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications in all interactions to build relationships and accomplish day-to-day work and projects.
  • Self Development - Responsible for continuous self-study, training, partnering with more senior members of the team, and/or seeking out opportunities to broaden scope to stay up to date with industry and organizational trends. Seeks feedback from senior team members for development and effectively incorporates feedback into work and behaviors.
  • Interactions with Others - Successfully completes projects, tasks, and initiatives by embracing a team-first approach. Works in collaboration with team and offers feedback, where appropriate, to complete individual and group efforts. Shows the ability to adjust and be flexible to change by adapting approach when necessary. Mentors less experienced staff.

Qualifications

  • Typically has 5+ years experience in a Software Test Engineer role, coding UI automation frameworks and test scripts with proficiency in one or more programming languages.
  • Advanced knowledge of manual testing concepts, techniques, and best practices
  • Experience in developing cross-functional systems
  • Deep knowledge of developing complete systems
  • Demonstrates mastery of the fundamental tools and concepts of software quality assurance 
  • Highly driven and self-motivated to exceed expectations
  • Team player with the ability to work collaboratively as well as individually
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field from an accredited university is required or has acquired core software test engineering skills and knowledge via practical experience
  • Extensive hands-on experience in programming and executing automated test scripts using a framework such as Selenium WebDriver (or similar tool with a willingness to learn) for end-to-end UI automation
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C#, JavaScript, or NativeScript is preferred
  • Knowledge of API/web services testing tools such as POSTMAN or SoapUI is preferred
  • Familiarity with native mobile application testing tools such as Appium or Android/iOS device emulators is ideal
  • Experience with SQL and leveraging queries or relational databases to support data-driven testing
  • Solid understanding of the Agile/SCRUM SDLC using ALM tools such as Microsoft Azure DevOps or JIRA
  • Knowledge of or participation in continuous integration/continuous delivery practices, integrating QA scripts into automated software deployment processes
  • Comfortable leading QA efforts on larger scale projects, defining test strategies, delegating QA tasks to junior team members, and reporting on results
  • Demonstrates the ability to identify and implement continuous improvement practices
