Description

UPMC Health Plan has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Data Scientist Associate to support the Marketing Communications Department for its downtown Pittsburgh location at the US Steel Tower.

The Associate Data Scientist uses a robust math toolbox to discover solutions for a diverse portfolio of interesting and challenging problems. The Associate Data Scientist works collaboratively with the Data Scientist to develop, implement, and monitor advanced analytic, medical informatics, and predictive modeling tools for health care programs. Normal work hours are Monday through Friday day-light business hours or as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Execution of all phases of quantitative research projects: identifying the business problem, data exploration, modeling, and communication of final results, with the assistance of the data scientist.
  • Consults with and provides guidance on the selection and use of modeling software and programs.
  • Design, develop, and implement health care analytics, marketing analytics, and biomedical modeling programs.
  • Develop and implement test designs for marketing and operational programs, and generate insights and recommendations. Support ad hoc campaign performance analyses with the Marketing team.
  • Implements plans for capturing and creating new data elements, working with Health Plan CIO and IT staff.
  • Responsible for conceiving, planning, designing, developing, and validating robust algorithms for use in analyzing health care models.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline such as Bio-informatics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, Decision Science, Health Services Research or related field.
  • One year of experience in quantitative methods or other relevant work
  • Ph.D. preferred in a strongly quantitative discipline such as Bio-informatics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research, Economics, Decision Science, Health Services Research or related field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong mathematics and science background with sound analytical/computational skills.
  • Intermediate-level knowledge of statistical methodologies.
  • Knowledge of database management using SQL.
  • Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as, but not limited to: MATLAB, Mathematica, SAS, R, or STATISTICA.
  • Ability to design programs to analyze complicated scenarios.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, enthusiasm, and initiative on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment a must.
  • Attention to detail is critical to the success of this position
