UPMC complies with all governmental requirements related to local, state, and federal COVID-19 vaccination for employment. The Jan. 13 Supreme Court of the United States decision that the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate will move forward requires UPMC to ensure employees either get vaccinated or receive a requested medical or religious exemption.

Psychiatric Assistant- CADD

Description

The employee in the Psychiatric Assistant position under the direction of the Registered Nurse, assists in the provision of patient care for emotionally disturbed, developmentally/intellectually delayed, and/or multiply disabled child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

This is a Union position with the Center for Autism and Developmental Disorders (CADD) Unit will work the evening/night shift at the set Union rate of $13.92.


Responsibilities:

  • Standard Responsibilities: Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned. *Indicates a non-essential job responsibility.
  • Collaborative Practice: Maintains on-going communication with the treatment team and charge nurse regarding observations of patients medical and behavioral symptoms and the care provided. Participates in interdisciplinary activities including treatment team, staff meetings, co-worker feedback process and other unit-based committees as assigned.  Assists in the preparation and organization of various paperwork completed on the night shift that ensures smooth coordination of care provided throughout the day.
  • Professional Growth: Maintain competency requirements. Attend a minimum of 2 unit based or institute wide in-services yearly. Learn and utilizes up-to-date technology and practices in the delivery of patient care.
  • Care Delivery: Completes observations of patients as ordered following all guidelines. Encourage patients to perform or assists them in the performance of activities of daily living. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment. Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the milieu program providing a consistent and therapeutic approach to patient care. Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches. Assist the nurse and other direct care staff in the provision of physical care. Documents in the medical record according to established policies. As time allows, supports the unit with non-therapeutic activities such as games and drawing.
  • Transformational Leadership: Take initiative to ensure that unit environment is maintained.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to communicate adequately in English both verbally and written.
  • Physically capable of providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent mentally ill patients as necessary, including lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring and pushing and pulling equipment such as wheelchairs, stretchers and beds. 
  • Must be able to work overtime as required in accordance with Act 102.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CCM training is required within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
