UPMC is actively hiring an Intermediate Software DevOps Engineer to support the Health Plan's Consumer Technology Team.
 
The primary role of the Software Engineer, Intermediate (DevOps) is to create, maintain, and optimize the DevOps Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery tools, configurations, and infrastructure for the UPMC Consumer Technology department. This individual will contribute to the strategic planning and implementation of automated CI/CD processes for the development, testing, and release of supported software, and collaborate with software engineers, systems analysts, and quality assurance to optimize established processes and procedures throughout the software development lifecycle.
The role will require a broad background in computer science, the application of different programming languages, a complete set of programming/debugging skills, ability to adapt and change, and an aptitude for continuous learning.

Responsibilities:
  • In support of department and leadership vision and roadmaps, review and recommend Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) strategies and technical solutions for multiple diverse web-based and mobile applications, microservices, and legacy software systems
  • Create, maintain, and optimize the DevOps CI/CD tools, configuration, and infrastructure
  • Interactions with Others - Successfully completes projects, tasks, and initiatives by embracing a team-first approach. Works in collaboration with team and offers feedback, where appropriate, to complete individual and group efforts. Shows the ability to adjust and be flexible to change by adapting approach when necessary. Mentors less experienced staff.
  • Application Development Cycle - Show fundamental knowledge of application development cycle. Demonstrate an intermediate understanding of the application development cycle.
  • Define, apply, monitor, and enforce standard procedures and best practices for DevOps CI/CD
  • Documentation - Create basic technical documentation. Responsible for maintaining and validating current documentation.
  • Security - Show fundamental knowledge and follow secure coding processes and writing, accessing, and following established security protocols.
  • Quality - Follow established coding standards. Submit code for review and deliver quality, unit test code.
  • Integration - Responsible for components of integration within a module.
  • Communication - Responsible for demonstrating appropriate, clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications in all interactions to build relationships and accomplish day-to-day work and projects.
  • Troubleshooting - Independently resolve issues. Mentor associate-level staff with issue resolution.
  • Design - Follow established design patterns and has awareness of user experience standards. Responsible for individual components of design.
  • Project Management - Has ownership in the success of projects. Responsible for estimating and delivering on individual tasks within the project.
  • Identify opportunities to apply automation and implement tools and utilities that enhance software development, build and deploy, QA, and release processes
  • Research build and deploy failures; assist with root cause analysis and problem remediation
  • Document and educate others on the build and release processes
  • Mentors, motivate, and inspires team members
  • Maintains skillset and awareness of DevOps industry standards

Qualifications

  • Typically has 2+ years' experience in a DevOps/build management role, with proven success defining and implementing new processes, driving transformational change, and monitoring for adherence.
  • Experience with complex development environments, taking abstract concepts and ideas, and formulating a detailed software deliverable
  • Experience in developing cross-functional systems
  • Deep knowledge of programming
  • Experience with complex development environments, taking abstract concepts or ideas, and working collaboratively to develop automated deployment solutions throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Highly driven and self-motivated to exceed expectations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Team player with the ability to work collaboratively as well as individually
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field from an accredited university is required or has acquired core DevOps Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery skills and knowledge via practical experience.
  • Solid understanding of software development principles and coding standards/best practices.
  • Experience administering DevOps Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery tools and source control management including Azure Pipelines, YAML, or equivalent technologies such as GitLab, Jenkins, or AWS CodeDeploy.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure cloud architecture and services including API Management, Application Gateway, Azure Active Directory, and Azure Resource Manager (ARM Templates).
  • Experience with scripting solutions such as PowerShell or JavaScript.
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD processes.
  • Experience with container orchestration services such as Azure Kubernetes (AKS) and Docker is preferred.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the Agile/SCRUM software development lifecycle methodology.
