UPMC is actively hiring for a Senior Systems Analyst to support the Health Plan Payer Applications team!
The Senior Systems Analyst (Senior IT Project Manager) is an experienced and result-oriented individual with a proven track record of managing all phases of IT service delivery throughout the SDLC of each cross-functional department project/program within the UPMC Insurance Service Division. This position ensures all initiatives are closely aligned with UPMC strategic priorities and business requirements to be delivered at the highest standards/quality, on time, on budget, all while managing risk and providing status to stakeholders and executive leadership.  

  • Responsible for providing technical project planning, management, and oversight for key initiatives and implementation projects, ensuring these initiatives and projects are closely aligned with UPMC’s strategic priorities and initiatives are completed on-time, within scope/budget with an extremely high quality of deliverables. 
  • Establishes, plans, and executes major milestone reviews and decision gates to complete the project life cycle. Ensures all the required products/projects are produced and reviewed, including the technical leadership of requirements management, design, implementation, system integration, verification, test, quality assurance, delivery, operations, and sustainment of the technical solution
  • SDLC (System Development Life Cycle) - Manages all phases of IT service delivery throughout the SDLC of each department/program including planning and requirements, design and development, testing and training, and deployment of solution… all while managing risk to stakeholders and executive leadership.  
  • Vendor Relationships - Interact with vendors (technical issues, project initiatives) under the direction of more experienced team members as necessary. Assist with issue escalation where applicable.
  • Manages and has the ability to appropriately escalate: delivery impediments, risks, issues, and changes associated to the product development initiatives
  • End-User Training - Create and review existing training documentation. Facilitate high-level user training sessions independently.
  • Communication - Responsible for demonstrating appropriate, clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications in all interactions to build relationships and accomplish day-to-day work and projects.
  • Assigns and monitors work of technical personnel, ensuring that project steps are in alignment with business objectives, on time and within budget
  • System Integration - Complete assigned tasks related to system integration. Validate testing. Ability to modify existing test plans.
  • Project Management - Create and contributes to project tasks and milestones. Update all project management and time tracking tools accordingly. Ability to take full ownership of a project.
  • Acquires, manages budget, staff, and other resources necessary to accomplish the goals and/or objectives of the project group/function and monitors performance across resource channels
  • Defines roles and responsibilities in collaboration with stakeholders and business partners
  • Data Quality - Maintain data quality at all times.
  • Will at times be assigned as the role of Scrum Master on IT projects. The role will ensure the successful operation of the scrum team and helping to remove impediments, protecting the Team from outside interference, and adopting Agile development practices. The Scrum Master is expected to educate and guide our Product Owner and Scrum Team
  • Process Improvement - Create and update processes. Ability to contribute to process improvement efforts.
  • Documentation - Complete documentation/flow charting of system builds and maintain team's existing documentation independently. Responsible for validating current documentation. Extract and document customer/business requirements and needs for use by enterprise architecture and engineering teams (network, system, and software).
  • Interactions with Others - Successfully completes projects, tasks, and initiatives by embracing a team-first approach. Works in collaboration with team and offers feedback, where appropriate, to complete individual and group efforts. Shows the ability to adjust and be flexible to change by adapting approach when necessary. Mentors less experienced staff.
  • Data Confidentiality/Security - Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information at all times.
  • Will be accountable for all aspects of project management that includes but not limited to: project planning, scheduling, risk management, scope management, internal and external communications, status reporting, and resource management (internal and partners).  


  • Typically has 5+ years experience with modern technology and application support through education or practical experience.
  • Ability to work independently along with lead and motivate cross-functional teams to interact with all levels of business
  • Demonstrates thorough understanding of information technology fundamental tools and concepts (SDLC) of one of the information technology professional disciplines and applies that understanding to make independent practical contributions to IT work within a UPMC department or function.
  • Completes ongoing training on-the-job, through courses, self-study, certifications, and/or advanced degrees to maintain and enhance technical and business capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Typically has 5+ years of Technical Project Manager experience with gradually increasing responsibilities and a demonstrated understanding of Project Management processes, products and tools
  • Experience with analysis, planning, gathering IT requirement documents, coordinating the planning/development of functional architectures/specs, and other related management and technical duties
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group; business stakeholders, product owners, architects, developers, and subject matter experts
  • Possesses high-level understanding in the areas of web application programming, API, data analytics, database, and infrastructure
  • Scrum Master should have knowledge about Agile techniques like: User Stories, Continuous Integration, Automated Testing, burndown metrics, velocity, user stories, etc.
  • Scrum Master should have knowledge of agile methodology/framework and have basic knowledge of software development processes/procedures to understand s/he team needs
  • Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high-quality work
