University of Pittsburgh Physicians is seeking a full-time Cardiology Technician, HVI to support the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute at UPMC Mercy in the Ermire Building!

The Cardiology Technician will work daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with no weekends or holidays required! Occasional travel may be required to other local HVI offices to support coverage needs.

The Cardiology Technician will perform specialized clinical functions related to Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP) and outpatient clinics.


  • Complete all appropriate forms and communicate with the clinical nurse coordinator and physician in charge.
  • Perform six-minute walk tests.
  • Assist with exercise stress testing.
  • Perform correct and accurate charge entry for office visits and testing, as needed.
  • Assist EECP patients with processing the financial account and prepare disbursement requests for individual patients, as needed.
  • Coordinate patient visits and schedule patients for additional studies, if needed.
  • Draw and process blood samples and perform EKGs, as needed.
  • Provide care to adult and geriatric patients.
  • Assess patient's health history, take vital signs, and review medications.
  • Correctly enter data in patient record.
  • Receive results from diagnostic studies, such as lab work, EKGs, and X-rays.
  • Ensure prompt review and notify appropriate personnel immediately of abnormal results.
  • Prep and prepare patients for Holter and event monitors.
  • Download reports and maintain Holter and event databases.
  • Order supplies as needed for EECP clinic and outpatient clinic.
  • Provide specialized clinical care to EECP patients.
  • Review patient's education regarding EECP treatment and possible side effects.



  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of experience as a Medical Assistant, Cardiovascular Technician, Paramedic, or Patient Care Technician required.
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Knowledgeable in anatomy and physiology of the heart.
  • Ability to think and act independently.
  • Computer skills highly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of EPIC/EpicCare preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) OR Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 34
