Do you have experience working in a call center?  Are you looking to help educate patients on their financial obligations?  UPMC is looking to hire a full-time Patient Financial Coordinator to work at the Quantum One Building in the South Side. This position would work Monday through Friday from 8:00am until 4:30pm.

A great perk includes work from home options!  Work from home is available after around six months (at the discretion of the supervisor and based on performance). 

The Patient Financial Coordinator is responsible for the timely and accurate financial counseling of out-of-network patients.  They also collect prepayments from the patients.

  • Counsel out-of-network patients on their financial responsibilities and options via telephone.
  • Collect prepayments from patients.
  • Assist with inquiries from patients regarding billing problems in conjunction with the Patient Financial Services Department.
  • Maintain compliance with quality standards.
  • Monitor the various work lists and work queues to ensure the appropriate follow-up within the expected time periods. Resolve complex outstanding patient issues.
  • Perform benefit education and financial counseling on potential out of pocket transplant related expenses with patients during clinic appointments and subsequent discussion via telephone on an as needed basis.
  • Maintain department productivity levels.
  • Conduct daily review and analysis of accounts flagged for review.
  • Performs duties and job responsibilities in a manner which promotes the core values of UPMC (Quality and Safety, Dignity and Respect, Caring and Listening, Excellent and Innovation, Responsibility and Integrity) in all consumer and UPMC interactions.



  • HS/Equivalent and 4 years of experience OR BS required.

  • Prior experience working with patients.

  • Familiarity with Pennsylvania Medical Assistance, UPMC Financial Assistance Progam preferred.

  • Strong PC and computer skills are required.

  • Must possess excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Must display leadership skills.

  • Must be able to pass the Certified Application Counseling training within the first 4 weeks of employment.

  • Must be dependable, professional, have strong interpersonal skills, be an excellent communicator and have the ability to prioritize the workload.
