The Marketing Communications Specialist II will work as a vital member of the Marketing Intelligence team to address marketing strategy and data analysis issues across clinical and corporate marketing for UPMC. This position manages internal and external resources to develop new data driven marketing campaigns focused on solving business problems.  Additionally, this role will also have a leadership role within marketing communications, taking the lead for corporate marketing communications projects when necessary.


  • Provide research as needed in quantitative and qualitative research projects
  • Provide data analysis for marketing projects (e.g., demographics, psychographics, audience and insight analysis, capacity, and competitive analysis)
  • Works with director and managers to synthesize research and data findings into actionable consumer insights to inform marketing campaigns.
  • Measurement of marketing initiatives (e.g., success, failure and revisions to initiatives based on KPIs and metrics) to support a portfolio of corporate needs, service line and hospitals/facilities needs.
  • Works with clinical marketing and business development leads to determine the targeting, value proposition, and budgets used in marketing materials focusing on both consumer and business to business opportunities
  • Demonstrate service-oriented behavior in interactions with clients and co-workers
  • Handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize projects appropriately
  • Manage projects of increased complexity, sensitivity, or importance to the organization, or edit major publication
  • Manage the development and production of marketing communications projects for UPMC programs, including print collateral, videos, digital content, and community outreach activities
  • Monitor budget and manage distribution and delivery of projects. Complete projects on time and within budget
  • Must adhere and implement brand standards across all marketing projects
  • Oversee graphic design and production process (including printing) so that projects are appropriate for the audience and message
  • Provide marketing support to UPMC departments and committees as needed
  • Serve as marketing communications liaison to management staff and medical staff of clinical and nonclinical programs, providing consultation and strategic communications planning where appropriate
  • Work closely with Directors/Senior Managers/Managers to develop marketing strategies and plans for clinical marketing tactics to grow volume, raise brand awareness and more


  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, health sciences, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a marketing communications position or related field.
  • Must have knowledge of traditional and digital marketing best practices, excellent communication, multitasking, organizational, research/interviewing, writing, grammar, and interpersonal skills.
