Nursing Assistant Trainee – Heritage Place

 Are you passionate about helping others? If so, becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) could be for you! UPMC Canterbury Place and Heritage Place are currently offering a CNA Trainee class at our skilled nursing facility in Pittsburgh, PA to give you the skills you need to pass the CNA exam!

As a CNA at Canterbury Place or Heritage Place, you will provide quality medical and physical care and comfort to residents and assure overall safety of the department in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations.


UPMC Canterbury Place is an assisted living and skilled nursing facility and Pittsburgh's first senior community. Centrally located in Lawrenceville, we are just minutes from Route 28 and 79 North, close to Oakland and the bus line!

 

Heritage Place is centrally located in Squirrel Hill, we are right on the bus line and close to Oakland!

  
Course Details: 

• CNA classes are held at Canterbury Place in Pittsburgh. 
• Learn the skills you need to take the CNA certification exam! 
• Classes are held Monday through Friday for 18 days, during the daylight shift.    

• Four-week program includes classroom and clinical training plus CPR certification. 
• Classes and exam fees are paid for by UPMC! 
• Perfect attendance and punctuality for the CNA class is required. 

Once you complete the classes, you will begin training/working as a CNA at UPMC Canterbury Place or Heritage Place in a full-time, part-time, or casual position depending on the department’s availability and need. Evening and night shifts (3:00 p.m. - 11:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. - 7:30 a.m.) are currently available for CNA staff that complete training classes. Shifts can vary depending on the department's needs, and rotating weekends are required.


Responsibilities: 

• Promptly reporting to class as assigned
• Provide resident care under direct supervision of the Nursing Assistant Instructor 

• Obtain assignment from Nursing Assistant Instructor 

• Make rounds to all residents on assignment to make sure the resident has no immediate requests 

• Meet resident needs as identified during rounds 

• Consistently work cooperatively and pleasantly with all staff, residents, family members, and Nursing Assistant Instructor 

• Follow Resident Rights policies at all times 

• CNA trainee must maintain confidentiality of information at all times 

• Breaks and lunches are scheduled as per the Nursing Assistant Instructor 

• The Nursing Assistant Instructor is to make any adjustments to the schedule. 

• All students are expected to follow all UPMC policies and procedures. 

• Completion of class to prepare for PA nursing assistant certification exam.


Qualifications


High School graduate or GED preferred


Licenses and Certifications:

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification preferred

  • Act 34 and Older Adult Protective Services Act clearance (when required) as needed
