Team Leader, Specialty Service


The Team Leader is responsible for scheduling appointments and various procedures for Specialty Service physicians/patients.The Team Leader is responsible for general supervision, under the direction of the department manager, and assisting with the operation of Specialty Services.


  • Ensures compliance with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures, including maintaining patient confidentiality. Identifies and resolves work problems to ensure quality patient service.
  • Supervise and direct the activities within the Specialty Service Area creates weekly schedules for staffing of department, managing schedules / time within Kronos system. Assists with the recruitment, hiring process, training and supervising of personnel within the Specialty Service Clinic. In addition, assisting department manager with annual performance evaluations.
  • Ensures compliance with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health) and maintains strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
  • Performs clerical functions accurately and effectively, i.e., scheduling of appointments for and verifying of schedules for visiting physicians main offices. Collection of appropriate patient demographic information for billing purposes, i.e., visiting physician offices and hospital related charges. Coordinates Specialty Services activities with appropriate hospital department, i.e., Medical Records, Medical Imaging, Laboratory, Outpatient Procedure Unit, Operating Room, etc.
  • Monitor daily workflow process / procedures communicating with Dept Mgr. any changes / improvements made. Monitors / Participates / Assists Manager in completion of Monthly-Semi Annual-Annual Quality Control Monitoring Processes and Monthly-Semi Annual-Annual SSA/OCH Monthly Reports. Assists Department Manager with overall daily operation of the Specialty Service / Occupational Health Areas.
  • Performs clinical functions accurately and effectively. i.e., preparing of patient rooms, setting up instruments and equipment to accommodate visiting physicians, cleaning of exam rooms, instruments, equipment between patients. Follows protocols for sterilization of instruments used during procedures. Managing of inventory supplies, restocking exam/procedure rooms. Coordinate scheduling of and initiate appropriate processes for services provided through the Occupational Health Services.



  • Education & Training:
  • LPN license required.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience within a medical office setting.
  • Must be able to stand and walk up to half the day.
  • Needs to be able assist patients & carry crates of charts/x-rays/supplies.
  • Strong communication skills, strong computer skills able to work with spreadsheets to create monthly revenue reports.
  • Knowledge of general nursing practices i.e.; vital signs, sterile technique, CPR certified, assisting with exams/procedures.
  • Must provide periodic evidence of continued registry/licensure in respective professional association.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 33/34/73 clearances required.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Act 34
