UPMC is hiring for an Intermediate Application Delivery Engineer to support the IT System Security Team!
This role will support the Information Security Group's efforts to develop secure systems and networks through the identification and use of automated tools, execution of security processes, procedures, and reporting. Work with Data Stewards and Application Support representatives to ensure delivery of highly available and secure applications.

  • Consistently meets set SLAs for incidents, quotes and request for change (RFC)
  • Ability to work in and constructively contribute to teamwork environment and meet deadlines
  • Keeps informed of trends and changing technologies as they relate to IT and Network Engineering and Information Security fields. Engages in continuous process improvement. Suggests cost or time-saving process improvement or automation to speed up delivery times and accuracy.
  • Escalates and communicates issues as appropriate to management and leadership
  • Participates in 24x7 on call rotation and supports Application Delivery changes and issues outside of standard business hours as needed. Provides local and remote support as required by ISD's Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • Provide service to ISD client community, patients, families and visitors, while protecting the integrity and confidentiality of all data and information through physical and electronic measures.
  • Maintains Application Delivery Hardware and Software. Completes routine changes and upgrades with minimal supervision.
  • Recognizes subtle problems with system design or performance and acts appropriately to improve the condition, seeking validation of actions in advance as appropriate.
  • Takes ownership of projects and completes them with moderate supervision. Identifies issues affecting work progress and recommends solutions. Escalates changes in scope, schedule variances and other issues to senior team members. Reports status and completes documentation of projects.
  • Resolves most common and many moderately complex to complex problems/issues/ opportunities. Responds to unfamiliar, undefined, unexpected or unstable situations with the professionally-prescribed standard response. Uses sniffers, log feeds and other advance tools to troubleshoot and isolate source of Application Delivery issues


  • Typically has a 4-year academic degree including courses in computer programming, systems analysis, system development, or systems engineering and/or has acquired 2+ years of core IT skills and knowledge via practical experience.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the fundamental tools and concepts of one or more of the information technology professional disciplines (i.e.; Applications, Business Analysis, Customer Service, Data, Networking, Operations, Security, Systems Engineering, etc.) and applies that understanding to make independent practical contributions to IT work within a particular UPMC department or function.
  • Ability to utilize knowledge to independently resolve issues and communicate root cause analysis to stakeholders.
  • Maintain current knowledge of security techniques and technologies and applies that knowledge to develop security programs that mitigates the security risk of the UPMCHS.
