Data Manager


UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full-time Data Manager to support the Biobank Research department!

This position will work daylight shifts. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.

This position is grant-funded.

Lead data technology innovation and application efforThe Steve N Caritis Magee Obstetric Maternal and Infant (MOMI) Database and Biobank is a core resources at the Magee-Womens Research Institute designed to support clinical, translational, and basic research to advance scientific understanding of maternal and infant health. The MOMI Data Manager and Coordinator will be responsible for data management, clinical data coordination, and data requests. These activities will include addressing all MOMI investigator inquiries, investigator-facing communication, data management, data fulfillment, tracking and reporting.  Knowledge and experience with clinical data applications, participant recruitment, and with research compliance and regulations are desirable. Clinical training or clinical research experience is a plus, but not required.  Outstanding data management, analytic, communication and organization skills are HIGHLY preferred. Demonstrated ability to work as part of team committed to quality and customer service is HIGHLY preferred.ts, oversee all project database management procedures, lead all statistical analysis efforts, supervise staff, provide conceptual input and analysis to facilitate special project tasks and facilitate all software, hardware and communication efforts.


  • Use or facilitate through support staff the appropriate technology to establish a direct link between the project research office and community program sites and administration offices to obtain online project data from all participating staff; review all computer software; provide accurate advice on all related decisions and purchases.
  • Integrate data management systems across multiple projects so that necessary innovations from one study are modified and utilized in all other studies and there is consistency, comparability, and efficiency across studies.
  • Conduct computer analyses using appropriate statistical techniques.
  • Develop constructs in database using rigorous empirical techniques.
  • Assist in program data collection and coding modifications to continuously meet the changing needs of program research.
  • Train and supervise other staff with data analysis responsibilities in the appropriate use of statistical techniques, including standardization of analytical databases and statistical output to allow analytical tasks to be completed and referenced efficiently across the program.
  • Continually monitor the hierarchy, feedback system, or talent mix of the program to improve quality of services.
  • Propagate new technological advances from one project to other projects where applicable. Ensure that new technology is rigorously tested prior to application.
  • Teach designated persons how to use computer and enter/check data. Provide assistance in completing project tasks.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities among data core staff members to maximize efficiency, take advantage of core competencies, and promote professional development.
  • Ensure compliance across projects with program-wide best practice documents that standardize all aspects of database infrastructure.
  • Work with Research Supervisor and Assessment Supervisor to promote standardization, training, efficiency, and mobility across studies among assessment staff members.
  • Use, learn and apply new statistical applications to enhance ongoing data analytic tasks.
  • Coordinate and plan projects for all on-going technology innovations and applications used in various longitudinal research projects. Provide logistical planning, tracking of project components, and enforce accountability for deadlines and expectations among various data core staff members.

  • Bachelor's Degree in information science, statistics or a related field and 6 years of experience OR Master's degree in information science or statistics and 4 years of experience
  • Competence as a statistical consultant and data manager.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent supervisory, team management and project planning skills.
  • Good rapport with immediate supervisors and subordinates.
  • Hard working, conscientious, initiating and self-motivated.
  • Research experience, interest in women's health HIGHLY preferred.
  • Interpersonal skills, including customer service to work with research preferred.
  • Strong database and analytical skills preferred.
  • Ability to balance competing priorities preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34 with renewal
