The UPMC Health Plan is hiring a full-time Manager, Clinical Training and Quality Assurance to support the Clinical Training and Development Department for its downtown Pittsburgh location at the US Steel Tower. 

The UPMC Health Plan is hiring a full-time Manager, Clinical Training and Quality Assurance to support the Health Coach Academy by UPMC. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned health coach training leader to support the ongoing evolution of the health coach training program, quality assurance review, Motivational Interviewing training and competency programs, and ongoing skills development processes in compliance with the standards set forth by UPMC Health Plan, the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching, and the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. 


  • Participate in the development and implementation of clinical programs and projects as needed.
  • Provides mentorship and staff development opportunities to engage and retain staff.
  • Compile budget information and manage ongoing tracking of costs and spending. Manage costs within budget parameters.
  • Develop and manage tools for reporting and benchmarking to determine program effectiveness while summarizing and interpreting data to meet strategic plans to meet department objectives.
  • Plan, coordinate and develop clinical training programs from an operational standpoint while ensuring that the organization is able to efficiently and effectively meet the growing regulatory requirements while offering skills-based and developmental training needs consistently across the organization.
  • Establish collaborative working relationships with UPMC clinical partners partners to identify operational training and development needs of the organization and design plans to address these centralized needs.
  • Manage the daily operations and performance of a team of Training/ Education Coordinators conducting training, quality assurance reviews, competency development, program oversight, and ongoing continuing education activities for health management staff working with all lines of business at the Health Plan.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills, interacting with all areas of the Health Plan and external entities.
  • Performs duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy and standards of UPMC Health Plan, including conveying courtesy, respect, enthusiasm, integrity, innovation, and a positive attitude with others.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge in health coaching and care management practice standards, organizational policies, and government regulations.


  • Masters degree in nursing, psychology, exercise physiology, nutrition, public health, social work or a related field is required
  • A minimum of five to seven years of applicable experience in health care delivery is required.
  • 3 years in health care insurance preferred.
  • 3 years management, supervisory, or leadership experience required in health management/health promotion/disease prevention required
  • This position requires a strong Motivational Interviewing skill and a cognitive-behavioral background with a working knowledge of health behavior change theories and models.
  • Clinical education & training experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Motivational Interviewing Quality coding preferred
  • Proficiency in using data reporting and analytic tools and ability to analyze data and identify trends required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office products
  • Must be forward-thinking, with the ability to identify growth opportunities for the department
  • Must have the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, quality-focused environment

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • National Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach Certification, Certified Care Manager, or Certified Public Health Education Specialist preferred
