UPMC Western Maryland, Cardiology is hiring a full-time Physician Assistant or CRNP to support our on-campus cardiology services.  The schedule will offer 8-hour shifts from 8:00am - 4:30pm, with occasional weekend call.  The primary role is inpatient rounding and outpatient services.  Prefer candidates with cardiology experience either PA, CRNP or RN.  See what being an Advanced Practice Provider can do for UPMC and what UPMC can do for Advanced Practice Providers – it’s more than just a job!

Purpose:
Under the supervision of a surgeon, the Physician Assistant provides diagnostic, therapeutic, andpreventive health care services to patients. Obtains medical histories, examines patients, orders andinterprets tests, and orders treatments. Assists surgeon as first or second assistant in OperatingRoom. Provides pre and post op care to patients as needed and monitors progress during hospitalstay. Serves as a physician extender by gathering the data necessary to implement the surgeon'stherapeutic plan. In the role of patient advocate, the Physician Assistant is a confidant, advisor andliaison between patients and physicians.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Accepts patients and assesses their condition to determine proper handling andspecial requirements. Explains and prepares the patient for exam. Reviews patientcharts to ensure the proper examination and diagnostic result is obtained. Relies onextensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology and effects of disease processes toproperly and safely preform the procedure for maximum diagnostic yield.
  • Communicates effectively and appropriately. Uses good judgment as to what tocommunicate to whom as well as the best way to get that accomplished. Speaks in aclear and credible manner, selecting the right tone for the situation and audience.Listens to others and allows them to make their point.
  • Possesses sufficient job skills and knowledge to perform the job in a competentmanner. Is able to demonstrate skills and knowledge in day-to-day situations.Demonstrates technical competencies, standards, and skills; and the ability to applyin day-to-day situations.
  • Treats self development and professional growth as a life-long pursuit. Keeps abreastof new healthcare technology and practices via professional organizations,professional journals, conferences, continuing education opportunities and othermeans. Applies new knowledge in the work setting and shares new learning withother employees.
  • Demonstrates that s/he is an effective team player who adds complementary skillsand contributes valuable ideas, opinions and feedback. Communicates in an openand candid manner and can be counted upon to fulfill any commitments made toothers on the team.

Qualifications

Masters degree in Nurse Practitioner Program or Physician Assistant (Maryland Approved) required. 

CRNP:  

  • The successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program is required 
  • Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience is preferred 
  • Current state RN license and CRNP certification are required 
  • National certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing, eligible for certification as a CRNP by Maryland state board of nursing 

 PA:  

  • A graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) is required 
  • Experience as a physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting is preferred 
  • Current state Maryland license certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician  Assistants (NCCPA) is required
