Description
The Prevention & Education Specialist will partner with Somerset County Schools to facilitate, develop, or coordinate prevention education services based on goals and objectives, utilizing six federal strategies as designed by the state Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs (DDAP). This is a grant-funded program.
The ideal hire will have experience in the drug and alcohol field, as well as experience teaching and presenting. Should be a strong communicator and friendly as there will be a lot of involvement and interaction within the community. This is a mostly daylight, remote position, 8a-430p, with the understanding that the schedule should be flexible with start and end times. Travel is required to the school districts in which we serve in order to attend meetings and provide programs as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Teach evidence-based programs (such as Botvin LifeSkills, HALO, and PTND) in all area schools.
- Provide technical assistance to area schools to teach the programs with their own internal educator.
- Implement drug and alcohol classes with students in specialized placements and classrooms.
- Develop and provide education presentations to community resources and schools on topics requested by the organizations.
- Attend quarterly Single County Authority (SCA) meetings for the purpose of reviewing and analyzing data collected on behalf of DDAP and identifying trends and needs.
- Actively participate in Somerset County Drug-Free Communities (DFC) meetings by networking with local schools and organizations, presenting information on relevant topics and collecting information from the other attending organizations.
- Disseminate education information and resource materials through seminars, speaking engagements, health fairs, and other public awareness events.
- Participate in continuing education opportunities earning a minimum of 12 hours per year.
- Write articles to be used in social media posts, internal and outward-facing newsletters and other sources.
- Market programs and DFC in all engagements as appropriate.
- Support DUI Coordinator efforts with DUI Education programs Alcohol Highway Safety School (AHSS), Court Reporting Network (CRNs), and Victim Impact Panel (VIP) and maintain required training hours for certification.
- Continually research new information in all areas of drug and alcohol addiction and the latest prevention and treatment methodology.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Service or Education-related field preferred.
- Certified Prevention Specialist preferred.
- 2 years of experience in the drug and alcohol field required.
- Act 31, 33, 34, and 73 clearances are required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively and persuasively lecture to audiences.

- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Driver's License
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
