Description
The Endoscopy Specialist is a health professional dedicated to Endoscopy patient care pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post procedure. The Endoscopy Specialist is an integral part of the team. The Endoscopy Specialist will be a Surgical Technologist who is a graduate of a CAAHEP approved program, a Licensed Practical Nurse with current license, or an Endoscopic Technical Specialist who has completed the GTS.
Responsibilities:
- The Endoscopy Specialist, as an empowered team member must be optimistic, enthusiastic, and able to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel. Must work collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team. Interacts with the patient in a friendly, courteous manner and respects the patient's inherent right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Customer Service: Demonstrates the highest degree of customer awareness. Identify and meet needs of internal and external customers. Treats each person with respect and dignity. Maintains accountability for patient and family satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Is receptive to questions and criticism, and willing to offer assistance to co-workers.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinical Manager and Nurse Manager.
- Completes unit-specific educational requirements as well as system-wide competencies.
- Assist with motility studies as necessary.
- Assist with preparation and recovery of Endoscopy patients as needed.
- Utilizes standard precautions when providing care.
- Displays and applies the principles of asepsis.
- Work collaborately with the RN to maximize efficient intra-procedure practices, minimize turnover times and promote prudent use of resources in the delivery of quality patient care.
- Displays ability to trouble shoot and adjust approach to recognize specific clinical situations based upon acquired knowledge and clinical experience.
- Performs assist/scrub role on cases and directly assists the physician.
- Demonstrates knowledge of disinfection/sterilization methods, monitors parameters, and understands scope processing procedures through competencies.
- Prepares patient for Endoscopic procedure.
- Ensures integrity of sterile packages is maintained before use.
- Ensures the Endoscopy suite is properly decontaminated between procedures.
- Maintain and establish departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, environment, and infection control standards, current literature, in-services, and workshops.
Qualifications
- Graduate of CAAHEP approved Surgical Technology program or graduate of Licensed Practical Nurse Program with current license preferred.
- GI Associates Skill Validation Test to achieve the title GI Technical Specialist required in lieu of Surgical Technologist program completion or LPN license.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Clearances must be dated within 90 days
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
