Description

UPMC Shadyside is hiring full-time Cardiac Technicians to support their new Centralized Telemetry Unit (CTU). As we expand, we need your talent now more than ever! Explore this excellent entry-level position to build your skills and grow in the healthcare field. Implement and prepare for interpretation of cardiac testing that includes EKGs, Holter Monitoring Hook-ups and Stress Testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Edit EKGs, after physician review, by deleting, inserting or making additions of established phrases in the ECG Computerized System (MUSE).
  • Utilize all computer systems (MUSE, TDS, etc) for testing data, result reporting and mailing, billing, etc.
  • Perform cardiac testing that include EKGs, rhythm strips, Signal Average ECGs, Stress testing, Holter Monitoring hook-ups, according to protocol and in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain equipment by cleaning and stocking on a daily basis as well as alerting appropriate personnel of needed repairs and supplies needed.
  • Also maintain the department area to meet Safety & Security regulations (JCAHO & OSHA).
  • Position specific - if working in the Centralized Telemetry Unit (CTU) Provides visual surveillance of numerous cardiac monitors simultaneously while maintaining 100% accuracy in terms of alarm recognition and notification.
  • Maintain alarms per policy.
  • Documents notification of alerts.
  • All Cardiac Techs at Shadyside must also: Support peer personnel in daily work assignments maintaining a constant awareness of the nature and volume of work and takes necessary actions to expedite coverage of responsibilities.
  • Cleans equipment on a shift basis.
  • Stocks supply areas and distributes inventory.
  • Notifies key personnel of manager of need for supplies and reports need for equipment service and repair to manager, bio-med and IT.
  • Responsible for personal job skill development and maintaining clinical expertise.
  • Attends in-service education and skill development courses as offered.  
  • Promotes and maintains desired public, interpersonal, and interdepartmental relationships and patient confidentiality.  
  • Is available to cover subsequent shift if staffing is inadequate.  
  • Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 6 months experience in a medical related field is preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet the department's needs that include evenings, weekends, holidays and weekend/holiday.
  • On-Call required.
  • Basic typing and computer skills are also required.
  • Transcription skills are preferred.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Completion of a Medical Assistant or Cardiac Technician course preferred.
 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 34
