We are searching for a Paralegal to join our UPMC Corporate Legal Team.  This is a temporary position with a projected assignment length of six months.  The position works Monday through Friday, daylight hours, at the US Steel Tower in downtown Pittsburgh.  

In this role, the Paralegal will primarily help with subpoena requests, discovery requests, and other duties as needed by the department.  The ideal candidate has very strong organization and communication skills.  Additionally, they work well in a team setting and thrive in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Responds to third-party subpoenas, discovery requests, court orders and other requests seeking medical, personnel, payroll and business records.
  • Assists with legal research and analysis and interprets findings at a basic level.
  • Completes simple to moderately complex legal filings.
  • Obtains legal documents and information from governmental agencies as required on behalf of UPMC hospitals and entities.
  • Responds to third-party subpoenas seeking protected health information on an as needed basis.
  • Performs legal reach utilizing both local and electronic research tools.
  • Develops and maintains a basic understanding of internal processes and procedures.



  • High School and either two years of legal training or two years of education in legal studies preferred.
  • Bachelors degree preferred.
  • Good problem solving and analysis skills.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software skills.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34
