As the Audit & Compliance Data Analytics, Senior I, you will report to the Director, Data Intelligence & Investigations. The Senior I’s primary responsibility is to lead high-quality data analytics and visualization projects in support of Internal Audit, Compliance, and Fraud Team engagements, in a timely manner and in accordance with professional standards. This position will leverage organizational data across a wide range of topics for quantitative analysis, risk monitoring, investigation, and auditing activities.

The Senior will collaborate with Audit, Compliance, and Fraud teams to drive recommendations that improve UPMC operations and controls. The Senior I is accountable for producing work papers and deliverables (such as reports and data visualizations) that are professional in appearance, appropriately detailed for the target audience, and that reflects an understanding of risk and control concepts, regulatory compliance, fraud indicators, and industry best practices. The role is responsible for maintaining proficiency in querying, cleansing, analyzing, and visualizing data derived from established organizational data repositories to facilitate data analytics work. The Senior I will also occasionally assist on various investigative activities in support of Fraud Team and Privacy investigations.  The Senior I demonstrates proficiency in analytics concepts, visualization techniques, and related software tools. The Senior I is transforming their collaboration skills into leadership capabilities that effectively facilitate insights and enhancements across the department. Working under the supervision of the Director, this position will be expected to conduct all aspects of data analytics on projects including planning, executing, documenting, and interpreting the results of data analysis steps and building visualizations as appropriate.

Responsibilities:

  • Technology: Possesses proficiency in knowledge of data querying, cleansing, validation, analysis, and visualization techniques, and working knowledge of statistical modeling and other advanced analytics tools (e.g. machine learning) to explore and mine data. Possesses or is developing proficiency in at least one relevant programming language (ACL, Python, R, SAS, SQL, etc.) and Visualization tool (PowerBI, Tableau, etc.). Possesses or is developing an understanding of software development techniques and systems to support quickly learning and implementing new technology tools or solutions. Works with the Director to distribute technical and procedural knowledge across the team. Consistently writes code and prepares visualizations in conformance with departmental standards and industry best practices. Follows and actively contributes enhancements to code and visualization standards used by the team to enhance consistency. Stays current with new and emerging technologies in data analysis and changes in the Organization’s IT systems. Is familiar with extracting and combining data from a variety of data warehouses, reporting tools, and systems in use at UPMC. Is responsible for building, maintaining, and improving departmental scripts, automated tasks, and risk monitoring metrics. Serves as subject matter expert in the daily execution of data analytics and fraud technologies and techniques to more junior staff across the department. Is developing a network of colleagues and peers in other similar roles across the organization.

  • Workpapers & Reports: Utilizes and contributes occasional enhancements to the Data Analytics templates and guidance documents. Also assists with communication/training of these standards throughout the department. Conducts continuous auditing tests and analyzes datasets for a variety of patterns including fraud, control breakdown and regulatory non-compliance, succinctly conveying the findings to management. Validate source data integrity and evaluate results and variances from expectations. Script analytics in accordance with departmental standards and coding best practices in ACL and Python (or other tools/languages) to allow for repeatability, QA testing, and peer reviews. Participates in departmental initiatives to improve the use of data visualization in audit, compliance, and fraud team reports. Capable of developing strong testing steps for routine statistical analytics opportunities. Identifies root cause of issues and proposes valuable and effective solutions. QA’s all workpapers as appropriate and finalizes deliverable drafts for review by Management, ensuring professional writing. Monitors project work for timeliness and adherence to departmental quality standards and validates evidence is organized to fully support conclusions and findings.

  • Risks & Industry: Identifies and contributes analytic approaches to improve risk assessment, auditing planning, root cause identification, and perform targeted monitoring. Combines a proficiency in risk & control concepts with data and business process understanding to propose and execute high-value data analyses and visualizations. Possesses working knowledge of IT, healthcare, and statistical terminology/concepts as well as common industry risks. Participates in industry and / or discipline professional organizations. Is developing their professional network of contacts outside the organization.

  • Leadership: Occasionally leads departmental and organizational special projects. Is building proficiency in public speaking / presentation skills and is comfortable leading internal and external meetings, including explaining issues to senior leadership and handling constructive disagreements to resolution. Is building collaborative relationships with key subject matter experts outside of the department who are central to furthering Data Analytics initiatives (i.e., data warehouse teams, information security, etc.). Proactively fosters an understanding of, and monitors changes in, the Data Analytics and Healthcare industries. Trains departmental staff on appropriate tools and techniques of data analytics and visualizations. When requested, assists department Managers and Directors in the evaluation of applicants for open positions.

  • Department Goals: Successfully manages many competing demands and is able to monitor that individual work is delivered on time and within budgeted hours. Enhance the culture through the execution of analytics in support of Internal Audits, Compliance Projects, and Fraud Team investigations. Meets departmental goals for productivity and is proactive in searching out additional tasks and projects during downtimes.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Data Science, Business Analytics, Engineering or other STEM-related degrees. 
  • Four years related work experience (or two years and preferred certification or master’s degree) required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in data/business analytics, data warehousing, business intelligence, information technology/information security/IT auditing required.
  • Professional certification and/or master’s degree preferred.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Certification Preferences: CISA, CISSP, CFE, CIA, CPA, CHC, CCEP, Six Sigma, ACDA, DASCA Certified, or other data analytics/visualization certification.
  • Licensure/Certification: Certification is preferred.
