This position is responsible for quality review within 24 hours of entry for all HIM Abstractors I and II, (i.e. data abstracted, scanned, and analysis) with a goal of 100% accuracy, in addition to the education of staff on inaccuracies or variations.

  • Responsibilities, knowledge, skills, abilities and working conditions may change as needs evolve.
  • Review and reference educational material and communications.
  • Assist in other office duties in times of staffing shortages or unexpected increases in work volume and assist with special projects when needed.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the established PinnacleHealth System & HIM departmental policies and guidelines.
  • Ability to provide statistical reports on a routine basis.
  • Identifies and recommends change to workflows, procedures, policies for abstracting, and data entry techniques.
  • Strong customer service skills to successfully communicate with HIM leadership and HIM customers.
  • Anticipates problems and initiates new and better ways of accomplishing tasks.
  • Ensures all details of a task are accomplished meeting productivity standards set for by HIM.
  • Takes on extra work when necessary to ensure the team meets or exceeds its goals.
  • Breaks down barriers and develops influential relationships with peers and across teams by communicating courteously, professionally and effectively.
  • Possess strong customer service skills.
  • Displays professional behavior at all times, by adhering to the dress code, following the PinnacleHealth System policy on attendance and live the PinnacleHealth System Standards of Behavior.
  • Maintain standard of accuracy and productivity concerning the QC process. Maintain patient confidentiality according to policy.
  • Makes corrections in Epic and OnBase using HIM guidelines (interface error work queue; scan deletions).
  • Must demonstrate competency in the EMR and document imaging software.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the clinical documentation.
  • Displays strong independent judgment, research skills and the necessary action for addressing complex problems/challenges and changes, while remaining a team player.
  • Performs quality checks on abstracted/scanned data, deficiencies and provides feedback to Abstractors and HIM leadership. 100% quality assessment of all data entered and scanned.



  • High school graduate or equivalent. Some college preferred.
  • Graduate of an AHIMA approved health information program highly desirable.
  • Some teaching/training experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Epic, OnBase, Microsoft Office, PHS Software Applications.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Clearances must be dated within 90 days BLS must be acquired within 12 months

  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
